  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

i don't get 'inspired' often, but i was watching an old move, Ringing Bell, that was put out in 1978, and i thought i would share! This is a conversation between Churin (a small lamb) and a Wolf.

"W: ...from the moment of birth, life is one endless struggle, and only the strong can survive.
-
C: but then what can i do? i don't have fangs like a wolf so how can i even fight? i cant do anything to protect myself. not a thing.
-
W: why do you want to become a wolf?
-
C: i couldn't stand it. they all just sat there in a pasture too scared to go past the fence, too scared to do anything! i don't want to be killed i want to be strong!
-
W: good, cry and let the anger out, its the only way that you're going to grow fangs..."
-
"W: ...life deals out few things besides pain, but from that pain you'll grow sharp, strong fangs. though they may not be the kind you can see."

what do you all think about this?

i agree with it mostly, though i don't like the use of fangs as a metaphor for strength since fangs are mostly predatory and are designed to rip and tear into other animals for their flesh or critically wound them. I feel like that is the worst outcome for a person who had no choice but to make an adaptation to survive an event or series of events, to chose to develop fangs to tear into others and metaphorically kill them in order to survive like sociopaths do. I feel like the quote would be better if it said "but from the pain your heart will get stronger."

What a coincidence, I just watched this movie a week ago!

I'm not really sure what to think of this. In the context of the movie, growing fangs meant that Chirin would be ostracized from his community. He could be strong, but alone.

I actually got an existential-nihilist vibe from the movie. I thought Wolf's (or Woe's, in the original version) character was interesting – he described life as hell, and had no desire to reproduce and continue the cycle of nature. He chose to be strong, and when he died, he simply accepted his fate.
