Help Anyone Else Dealt With Fungal Infections?

Might be a long shot but I'm just looking for any reassurance because I currently am dealing with a fungal infection in my ear canal and I'm mortified. If you have had a fungal infection how was it and how long did it take to go away with treatment? What the doctor provided to me wasn't available at any pharmacies so they gave me something over the counter to treat it instead and I really hope it works. I'm really scared because I'm under the impression fungal infections wont go away on their own and I'm suffering so much with it right now. I would much rather die than deal with this. Has anyone else dealt with a fungal infection here?

Yes I'm extremely familiar with fungal infections in the ear. I hope the doctor didn't give you an antibiotic which is what some general positions do not knowing that it's a fungal infection as we know antibiotics just make yeast worse. Worst case scenario you can go to Dollar tree or get generic athlete's foot cream and you can use that in your ear if you find anything in liquid form that would probably be even better. If you find it cheap and there's a couple options grab them The active ingredient should end in ZOLE, SUCH AS miconazole, clotrimizole etc, or yeast infection cream, definitely put a lot in your ear with a q-tip and you're going to have to do it deep if you're not able to access a liquid that your doctor prescribed you. This is a common occurrence in the summertime particularly if you live in a humid climate, using q-tips after showers is an absolute must. I actually had to go into a ear nose and throat specialist doctor and they used a suction, vacuum of sorts obviously extremely tiny and they had to suck out the fungus that was in there. If you have any questions feel free to respond to this or private message me also it would be worth googling as well to see if there are other options out there but just remember you need antifungal ointment preferably prescription but if you can't get that then over the counter and I know Dollar tree has athletes foot cream, which as I mentioned is just another fungus what works for one will frequently work for another

Thank you for your reply. I'm so anxious about this. They didn't prescribe anti biotics no, what they gave me over the counter was an anti itch cream as well as a cream called micotin which is an anti fungal. I read that you do have to apply it deep but how deep? The infection is at the beginning of my ear canal and my ear feels completely blocked off. I applied some to the general area where the infection is but I guess I should apply more?

What the doctor prescribed initially was something ending in ZOLE as you said, but it's not available anywhere. I'm just scared I won't be able to treat this.

Sorry for the reply again but what I was prescribed was Locacorten Vioform which was very very difficult for me to obtain this morning as they don't make it anymore. Have you used this before?

It's a discontinued medication so I'm very lucky to have it, it was seeming to work very well and the infection totally cleared up in my right ear. Now all of a sudden the infection moved to my left ear. It started with slight soreness in the morning and I thought I slept on it wrong but then all of a sudden later in the day it's like my ear swelled right up. Same pain as the previous days, maybe even worse honestly. Now I'm putting drops in both ears. Have you had this happen before? I'm really worried it's a sign of something worse and the infections not going to go away. I can't deal with this...

Yes I believe I did but it was a long time ago I believe it was a rash in my thighs. This kind of thing requires antibiotics so over the counter is not going to cut it. It literally needs to be killed so to speak by a prescription steroid if I'm remembering correctly.

I was able to get my hands on the prescription drops thankfully. They work but now I have this infection affecting my other ear instead (first one has totally cleared up). Hope I'm ok.

My cats had ringworm and they needed antibiotics to treat it or whatever the medication was. It went away in about 3 weeks time.

But you're not a cat, unless we're in a 1970s jazz bar, then I would be all like, "What's up you cool cat?" :p

Oh, I also had a severe wax blockage in both of my ears to the point where I couldn't hear. I had to go to the doctor and they removed the blockage with warm water and an ear pick. The warm water in my ear was a relieving sensation.

But, you want to keep your ear canals as dry as possible if you have a fungal infection. Don't get your ear canals wet in the shower, don't use a q-tip, and don't use any home remedies as they can make the infection worse.

Anti-fungal cream should do the trick. If it doesn't work go back and you may have to try something else.
