I realized that there's no point in brushing my teeth. They were already yellow, very "buck" (incisors were like rabbit teeth) and people made fun of me for that.

So this July, I threw away my brush but still ate foods rich in sugar. My parents forced me to go for cleaning in September and they found a lot of plaque.

I'm hoping this will make my teeth fall off and probably kill me (note: not choosing this as my suicide attempt). I definitely won't be putting any effort.

I've actually found that my original existing teeth with weak enamel are less sensitive now that I don't brush.

I most definitely do brush my teeth. I like my things clean and tidy, and that includes the interior of my mouth.

I think though the human body has natural ways of cleansing teeth (though that goes out the window with our modern diet). Humans for 10,000s of years didn't know how to brush their teeth but then again, they had a diet of fruits, vegetables, and meat.

True and they did get cavities but what they ate was nothing compared to the sweetened foods we have today (sauces, sodas, juices).

I think the amount of sugar we eat is the main reason for most of our problems besides dental issues. No?

Personal neglect is very common with depression. I do the absolute minimum to carry on at this point. Includes hygene, eating etc. Pretty much just going through the motions of a living thing.

Well it's tricky...yes it is but I've heard dentists say that 50% of cavities are caused by genetics (amount of saliva you produce, strength of enamel) and 50% is diet.

I'm sure you know someone who eats a lot of junk food and still has pretty white teeth.

For me, showering is essential because there's no good reason not to but brushing isn't.

I got to the point to were I brush my teeth about once every 3 days and that's only when I get a bad taste in my mouth. I was diagnosed with periodontal disease 15 years ago. It's were plaque builds up and slowly destroys your teeth. Ironically it also protect the teeth from cavities. Destruction comes when the plaque goes under your gums. Also about a year ago half of my wisdom tooth broke off. I still got all 4 wisdom teeth and all 4 grew in sideways.

Brushing should be so simple yet I'm so stuck in my own head most of the time I don't even think about it or have the motivation.

I brush, gargle and floss every time I have a shower, and I shower twice a day as it's one of the few places I feel relaxed. It's just part of the routine I guess, because I'm otherwise lazy when it comes to hygiene.

I brush at least twice daily. Gum infections is a slow and agonizing death. I watched a documentary that it was the main cause of death in the olden days.

Also bad breath is a crime against humanity.

When I was 14-16 my oral hygiene went to shit. I didn't see the point of brushing and didn't even notice that they became... Unpleasant.

I got bullied for my breath which was my own fault but I was just too low to give a shit

so cleaning teeth is my job and this thread is wild.

Well it's tricky...yes it is but I've heard dentists say that 50% of cavities are caused by genetics (amount of saliva you produce, strength of enamel) and 50% is diet.
there's that one line about statistics, but it is pretty accurate; a lot of people i see do what they're supposed to but still deal with cavities due genetic factors. as well as people who do what they're supposed to do and see a turnaround.

that being said, someone brought up gum disease, which i'm glad for. like, cavities are often treated like the end all be all of oral health, but infections at the gum are a much more prevalent cause for tooth loss in adults and also can have systemic effects.

i'm jumping around a lot, but from what i can gauge, possibly the teeth are less sensitive because they're coated in bacterial deposits, which is like, great. but. also. uh.

and yea, it's that thing that's like "why take care of myself" and how one can find internal reasons for that or if they want to. in my day to day stuff i see a range of attitudes and feelings people have about their mouths, it's a vulnerable thing closely attached to the sense of self. idk

Very accurate. The body can for the most part take care of itself, and this includes dental hygiene. There is a dentist who eponymously founded the Weston A. Price foundation. He personally went out to isolated areas, totally devoid of western influence and found that the dental structure and dental health of these ethnic tribes was absolutely perfect. Poor dental structure is a direct result of centuries of unnatural diet. And like Miss Clefable said about eating fruit, I will add that it doesn't take long for a fruitarian to start losing teeth. Fruits these days are loaded with sugar, and don't resemble their natural predecessors in size nor nutritional value. Teeth and the jaw need a work to stay 'in shape', and the best for that is meat. Most people overcook their meat which is very detrimental overall, but not so much for teeth.

There's a natural toothbrush a person can buy, like a wooden stick type thing. I've been brushing my teeth once a week for years and the last time I went to the dentist was at age 15 in 2007. When I was young and it was school holidays, I would go the entire holiday without brushing once. As opposed to my twin sister who brushes religiously all her life. Her teeth are weak and she has no choice but to be a regular client at the dentist.

And then there's the fluoride 'they' put in the toothpaste. The same stuff that makes anti-depressants work. If anyone did any research they would see that fluoride is extremely toxic. It is a by product of industrial waste, and sometimes even nuclear waste. Sublingual absorption is very effective and fluoride in the mouth goes straight into the bloodstream. What it's doing in meds and toothpaste, heavens knows.

sometimes i feel so weak that i cant do anything, including showering ...everything becomes so hard to do ….in those moments i completely lose myself , my body and everything becomes less real … the only thing i can feel mine is my suffering .. the only thing that i can feel worthy of my time

Maybe 2-3 times a week. I don't really care about my teeth, though they're still quite nice and straight. But that's only a matter of time, I suppose. There are some pretty nasty things that, while not usually fatal, can be really unpleasant if you let your oral cavity totally go to shit. I know that too, and should do better, but I'm just not concerned about my physical health at this point. Apathy has become a way of life for me.

Sometimes I might forget to brush my teeth or shower, however it doesn't happen often. I recently had a lot of dental work done pulling my wisdom teeth and filling cavities. Though I have one problem tooth that had decayed and broke off. I've been a sugar addict my whole life since childhood so it's really no surprise. However even though I can't afford to fix it I do try and brush/mouthwash and keep stuff out of it. Regardless I'm sure since the pulps exposed it's already infected and sometimes I do get extreme pain in that side of my head and jaw.

it's also like a naturally occurring element and its dental benefits were discovered in a town in colorado where tooth decay was predominantly low compared to the rest of the country. also weston price's findings and conclusions were literally published in early to mid 1900s and are under much more scrutiny nowadays and the foundation backs ideology that is dubious at best, harmful at worst. like. just because someone's a doctor doesn't mean they won't come up w/ dumb shit, i mean.
