As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. whether it's movies, books, games, etc.

i used to have no problem with hearing about fandoms i'm not in. everybody likes what they like after all, and my tastes are a little particular.

but as i got mentally worse, now there's a certain series that i hate hearing about. i hide posts and block people who talk about it, not out of ill will towards them but because i personally have a visceral reaction to that specific fiction. it's cringe and stupid to me, and hearing everyone rave about it literally ruins my day.

i feel like this actively sets back my recovery and idk what to do, even after all the vetting there's still overlap and i hear about it on the occasion because it's so popular. i feel like i'm going crazy. does anybody have a similar experience?

I think the closest thing i have to a trigger is spiders. I genuinely can't stand them, they make me shake and panic.

I was in a hostel w/ my mother at some point when i was a kid and the entire place was absolutely infested with spiders. They were on every wall and they would crawl on me when i tried laying down in my filthy bunk bed. They would always keep me up because of how many times i ended up panicking and sitting up and running around trying to get them off.

even now I regularly check my body to make sure nothing's crawling on me, it's something im very paranoid about. I cant even bring myself to try and kill them as i normally get the mental image of them squirming around in my mind. they remind me of the hostel i was in and that is something i try my best to forget about. im not too sure if that makes spiders a trigger for me, or if my arachnophobia is trauma-induced or whatever.

Lately, I get mad way too easily. So sometimes, if I see someone talk about something I think is annoying, I can get unreasonably mad. I think it's cause I'm always in such a bad mood, doesn't take a lot to completely ruin it.

There's also a TV show one of my abusers was obsessed with, and even though it has nothing to with what they did, posts about it can really set me off. Thankfully, it's a bit old by now, so not crazy popular anymore

Same here. I find it disgusting. Honestly its pedophilic. The fact that children can easily watch and access Pornographic Material on TV and on the Internet with no safeguards means we live in a pedophilic society that is damaging to chiildren. Anyone making this material with no safeguards for children are all pedophiles and should be put in jail. I was exposed to this material as a child on my own family TV, watching it with my parents even. They made me cover my eyes but I still saw a lot. I have been so damaged by the objectification of Women in our society that I developed an eating disorder at age 12. I blame Hollywood they are all pedophiles who do not protect children and I believe intentionally are displaying this material that children can see on purpose. They are all Satanists who have made oaths to Satan and he knows how much it harms children.

For me, Omori and the inherent misogyny it promotes that nobody wants to talk about.

I didn't care much for Omori and lost interest near the beginning of a playthrough when it first came out. I eventually learned what the story was (and still didn't care much for it) and all I can think about it is (spoilers):
"the story is about how a boy murders his sister, and we're supposed to forgive him for it because 'it was an accident'." (And let's not forget: "female character dies for male character's character arc," my least favourite trope, which the creator definitely used on purpose otherwise the protag's sibling could have been his brother or something).

My whole life has been boys and men doing horrific things to me that changed me permanently, but getting away with it because "that's just how boys are," "they can't help themselves," etc. My experiences taught me that men and boys can get away with anything they do against girls and still be loved and forgiven by society for it. I'm sick of seeing Omori, peddling this same narrative (even if unintentionally), being so popular.

this is exactly the type of thing i'm talking about! thank you. there's so many problematic tropes that i just can't deal with but everyone romanticizes the shit out of them or glosses over them bc of the aesthetic of whatever medium it's in. misogyny is at the heart of a LOT of them. i haven't played omori but good to know

I recently watched Smiling Friends and it triggered me pretty bad. The first episode had a guy who wanted to CTB and couldn't be convinced not to. Not to say I didn't like the show cause I liked it a lot but it just showed reality in such a dark way that it made me think about my situation instead of escape from it. So I guess really any media that portrays like how it actually is meaning dark and terrible even when they put a comedic spin on it triggers me.

does it make u feel better that she's fairly uhh disliked by the GP? i rarely hear anything positive about her when she's brought up . could be different in other places of the world tho.

Generally yes when people are talking directly about her philosophy, but atlas shrugged is still a relatively popular book. Tbf though people can like whatever they want, I just can't stand her.

Nah, not crazy. I have a few actually

There's this book, "A Boy Called "It"". It has graphic child abuse descriptions. I was like 13 when I read it, was intrigued by the title. I got like halfway through it then hit a really bad scene, got upset. Then I read the back cover a bit closer, realized it was an autobiography, and almost threw up. I had a sort of crisis out of shock that any human would treat their child like this guy's mom treated him. Thankfully the book's obscure enough I'll never come in contact with it again.

There was this one show I absolutely hated, I forgot what it was though.

Not specific to any fandom but fanservice and how sexual assault and cheating/infidelity are depicted can upset and/or annoy me to a degree I'll avoid that media like the plague.

that book was CRAZY. i heard somewhere that it was being read in middle school classes like what?? way to traumatize kids for no good reason. it wasn't even a well-written book or educational by any means. just graphic and shocking confessions.

and i agree about those general things about fandoms. people are into things that i think would be better off in self-insert fanfictions and not widely spread media that glamorizes them... but i guess if there's an audience it'll always be popular

sexual stuff that doesn't have any meaning behind it or any reason to be there

or sexual stuff in general
sometimes I can tolerate it sometimes I can't

but I am able to admire it or find it fascinating in art which is strange
I guess because sexuality in art is a bit different to me ?

stuff involving families

stuff involving growing up or coming of age / random teenage milestones, social interactions, and adventures

anal porn.
I just don't understand it. I've heard a lot of horrible stories about it irl and on the internet. It's obviously targeted at men who are into it for whatever reason, and it's not pleasant for women in most cases. They can get injured doing it, and some actresses have said that it feels awful, but they pay them a lot for that content. I know there are some people who seemingly enjoy it; good for them, I guess. But personally, I'm shocked by how popular this category is. When I see it in video previews on porn sites, I just quit.

rape and sexual assault being deemed necessary for female characters to have growth, personality, story, motivation etc. its so normalized and so poisonous, its absurd. imagine if men were as disgusted by rape as they are by menstruation.

recently i watched a netflix show with SA scenes that went on wayyy too long, i had to skip thru it but by the time it was done i already lost my appetite. imo you need to have a very good reason to include that kind of stuff in your plot, otherwise it's gratuitous and will trigger a lot of people. including it solely to make your story edgy and adult is so cringe to me. suffering is important in many stories, suffering from sexual violence is a particular kind of beast that i think most people aren't qualified to tackle
