• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Are you a pro-mortalist? If yes, what are your reasons for being one?

I apply pro mortalist logic to myself but not to the rest of humanity as I believe that people should get to choose if they want to continue living their life or not. However, I believe that those of us who want to not live should be allowed a peaceful way out.

I'll always believe that it's beneficial for me to die as early as possible so that my overall total cumulative suffering were I to live further would decrease massively

I haven't even read an entire promortalism article and the simple description of the philosophy makes so much sense. No life, no potential for harm. And harm can be pretty bad in this world.

Still I want to get more educated on the topic. Mayble it'll give me something to discuss with my therapist :ahhha:.

I agree to some extent. Justifying murder tho? Hell naw. Personal rights and choices regarding self are above that. Basically do whatever you want without forcing your views on someone else

Part of the theory I can't help but see the logic in. That- given the way this world works, there is so much suffering intrinsic to being alive for so many living things. So- wouldn't it be better if none of us lived to begin with? Perhaps- it's not like we'd be capable of knowing what we missed out on... We wouldn't exist!

The problem for me is the simple fact that we do exist. As soon as that happens, I think everyone should have the right of self determination. If they believe their life is worthwhile- I think it's wrong to start arguing with them that they'd be better off dead, along with everything else on this planet. Just the same as I think it's wrong for pro-lifers to insist that we stay alive only to suffer- when we don't want to. I don't agree with imposing your views on another person- in either direction. Especially when it comes to their life.

Of course, there's the hypothetical scenario of a red button that exterminates all life- or at least, all human life on this planet. Would it be more or less ethical to press it? I don't know- is the answer but I know I wouldn't be willing to make that decision for every living thing. That feels like God level thinking to me. So, I agree with certain principles behind promortalism, the same as I do antinatalism but I think ultimately, it's not for any of us to make decisions for other people.

Do you mean embracing the reality of death and living life fully within its constraints rather than radical life extension or immortality?

I'm not a pro-mortalist in the sense of "It's best if all life (specifically humanity) on earth was erased".

However I see the only relief of suffering in death though I still prefer to live despite my personal suffering. It's not possible to draw a clear line bc the whole stuff is complex.

I personally think that antinatalism implies promortalism. The fact that no life is worth beginning obviously implies that no life is worth continuing.

I know that most antinatalists don't share my pro-death view, but I don't really care tbh.
