I've read that you need to have someone accompany you for assisted suicide. They need to identify you before and after death as it were. Has anyone else heard that?

Not that I would even qualify for it. Not that I imagine a fair quantity of people here would be accepted too but- let's say you were. Would you have someone in your life who would support you like that? I don't think I have really. Plus, I'd feel bad putting them through that.

I remember, there was a member here who used to volunteer to accompany people. I thought that was so kind. Brave too. Although I support assisted suicide, I think I'd cry if I witnessed it. Even with a relative stranger.

with the risk of the person accompanying they could face up to 14 years in prison so I would never put someone in that position. I dont think I have anyone in my life that would support that decision. I am too young to qualify for assisted dying and have no physical health issues it's all just mental health issues.

I'm sure I read that you can pay exit international a fee and they would then send someone to be the witness.

I am pretty sure I read about a requirement like this somewhere while browsing different FAQs of different Swiss organizations.

I also once read somewhere that, if there was no one able to accompany you, you could use dental X-rays made before your final trip to identify you, but I am not sure whether I read it here or somewhere else, and I am also not sure which of the major Swiss organizations allowed for that to happen.

On that first point, that mainly applies to the UK and even that I don't think they prosecute very often.

If you don't have anyone to accompany you (which is their preference), they can do it without, and dental X-rays (usually it's panoramic, which many dentists don't do routinely, although mine does it every 5 years) is one, or the main, of the ways, and this applies to both Pegasos and Dignitas. The dental xray option adds about $1,000. (They have to get a specialist to compare your corpse teeth with the x-rays).

Although I support assisted suicide, I think I'd cry if I witnessed it. Even with a relative stranger.

There's a movie is on YouTube called Laura's Choice, which follows the journey of Laura to her assisted suicide at Pegasos. This was in 2019. It's the first one I've seen where the camera doesn't pan away during the dying process. It does make the abstract a reality.

I'm a staunch supporter of legal assisted suicide, apart from my mental health issues, I'm also disabled, I can walk, but its not brilliant, and I have physical health problems, some of which are painful (multi level spondylosis). In some European countries its legal, but not all. I think in the UK and Ireland its illegal, although there are campaigns to legalise it.

if you are talking about the swiss method as lebrodude mentioned. then yes. also, you need to 'friend' the service in advance so they can say they know you.
