  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

I'm currently unmedicated ADD (Primarily inattentive) and Depression.

No prescription medications for ADD could even hope to fix my dumbass brain. And I've tried just about every one of them. Never took any antidepressants, and I was reluctant because I've heard horror stories about the side effects from taking them.

My doctor thought about putting me on Lexapro but I just don't have much faith anything will work. I just told them I wanted to try "lifestyle changes" so I could easily call them up and try it if I wanted. But I'm so hesitant because most prescription meds can make you gain weight (I care about my looks and have been trying to lose the excess fat I already have), and kill your libido. I'm autistic so I already have no hope of getting a gf, but not being able to whack off is a hell within itself. And I've thought about doing hookups after losing this weight and being attractive again. But realistically I'd just like to watch porn so yeah.

I just feel like my brain was perma-fucked from the moment I was born, compounded with the severe bullying I suffered as a kid. There was no chance after that.

Wellbrutin no weight gain, boosts dopamine, can combine well with lexapro. I'm on day 14 ish, definitely an improvement to not being on it…

Sucks to everything that has happened to you. So many of us just set up for a difficult life.

Have you tried weed? Good for autism apparently.

I would do weed but it is still illegal in my state. I think I tried Wellbrutin before but it just made me way moodier and unstable. Hated it. Although I was working at a very stressful call center job and that could've been the true cause of my anger.

impossible to know. It does do that for some people. Some people have that for a few weeks then it evens out, but I've read other people get angry more on it.

Wish there was a good answer for all of us.

Try Lithium orotate. L tryptophan. Magnesium. All non-med options. L tryptophan currently helping me alongside my medication. Making me less grumpy, though quite blank.

L theanine some people find helpful - dopamine precursor

Sam-e is really good but does make me grumpy. But a lot more functional. It boosts metabolism.

St John's Wort another - check all the interactions, protect from sunshine.

Prozac/fluoxetine low risk for weight gain. I think one of the easiest ssris to withdraw from too as long half life

Effexor they are saying isn't bad for weight gain.

phenibut does nothing for me but some love it. not for everyday use.

If I may ask, are any of these OTC?

most antidepressants don't cause weight gain for most people. when they do, it isn't extreme. If you have a moderately active life, you will be able to keep your weight down. Years ago, I was on an antidepressant and another medication that causes an average of 20lbs gain per year. Took both of them for many, many years. I worked out 1 to 2 hours a day, 4 to 7 days a week, and I was lean and muscular and in shape. I kept my weight constant and my body in good shape with less exercise than that for a long time too, on the same meds.

different antidepressants work on different chemicals in the brain. Lexapro is an ssri and there are many others in its class. It works on serotonin. it slows down the reabsorption rate of serotonin in the brain, and this causes your neurons to be bathed in serotonin for an extended period of time. Wellbutrin works on norepinephrine. SSRIs are the ones that are notorious for sexual side effects. Wellbutrin has sexual side effects that go in the other direction. It will typically increase your libido. If you get sexual side effects from an SSRI, they will prescribe you viagra if you ask. sounds like Wellbutrin doesnt work for you.

Another option is Remeron, which is much less likely to give you sexual side effects. It will cause you to be drowsy, so since you've got ADD, I'd get a stimulant to offset that.

the way these drugs work, you just have to try them. How good they work and how bad the side effects are can be quite unpredictable. You want to try to find one that is high on working good and low on unpleasant side effects.

Yeah but every time I do take a bunch of drugs, I get side effects so I have to take yet another drug with it's own side effects. Then probably another to counter those side effects. I just can't win with medication and it makes me want to CTB just thinking about how I'll always be some genetic freak with a fucked up brain. I'll never be "normal".

I ended up gaining a fuckton of weight on Abilify. My genetics make it extremely easy to gain weight compared to most people. Just another reason why I don't want kids lol.

Sadly, this is a huge problem.
Antidepressants work differently on everyone. For some, one medication is the best but others struggle even more with that exact one.

Some people gain a lot of weight on specific ones and some barely or not at all. Sadly all you can do is to keep trying.

And I wish you the best with that <3

Yeah, honestly I feel like I'm too far gone and I should either cope or CTB

Don't be so hard on yourself :)

I felt like that too before finding the right meds but here I am, doing better than I could have imagined!

But I tried a lot of them. Had I found the right combo, I wouldn't be on this website at all. No offense.

I know I'm late, but I would like to chime in. My friend also had ADD quite severely, but he implemented methods that helped him cope with it. We have to be frank here: you've got to live with ADD, and that's okay. One of the things he did was to create a timetable the day before. This practice prevented his mind from wandering aimlessly, allowing him to focus entirely on the tasks he set for himself on a particular day. As for depression, you must have heard about the substantial amount of research related to physical activity and its positive impact on depression (1.5x more affective then prescriptions ) <that thread here>
