• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Looking for personal advice and interesting moral discussion.

I really enjoy life, and most of the time I am glad I'm alive. However, whenever I hurt someone else (always accidental), I feel like I must kill myself because it's immoral for me to continue living.

So my question is: Are there any scenarios where the moral thing for a person to do is to kill themselves? If so, what sort of scenarios does this include?

Personally the stuff I'm dealing with is e.g.: today I thought it was safe to cross a road, but it wasn't, and I almost got myself and a friend hit by a car. Which I believe makes me too dangerous to be left alive. But I don't know if this is objectively correct, since I'm too close to the scenario to judge it objectively.

Only thing close to this that I can think of is people in jail who were found guilty of a crime who then end up CTB in their cell after being found guilty. If they CTB due to guilt though, that's another question. I assume most CTB because they don't want to be locked up for a long time and can't mentally handle that thought, not so much because of the feeling of guilt.

I don't think anyone is, although they should feel guilty and apologetic for things they have done wrong. Since I can't be a fan of the death penalty I can't be a fan of moral ctb either. Also, your example is quite extreme. I think it might not qualify at all as being 'bad.'

I think if you have Alzheimer's or Dementia, when it gets bad and you don't even know who you or anyone else is, you should be humanely euthanized. Otherwise you could languish for years in that state.

Considering CTB (aka suicide). I accidentally caused a friend of mine to kill myself. A lot of my friends try to kill themselves anyway. so I carry a noose for if life beats me up once more.

I'm terrified of going mad and hurting people, I've had suicide as a back up if I start to lose my grip on reality assuming I'm self aware enough to know I'm losing it.

There was a member here who was plagued by increasingly sadistic and violent thoughts towards others. I want to point out there was a reason they became like this- they had been abused themselves. Also that they had been forced into 'help' in the past and, it had only made things worse. I believe in main part, they CTB because they were afraid they were getting to the point where they might act on their desires and actually hurt someone.

Absolutely truthfully speaking- if the choice was: someone rapes, murders or molests a child or adult- if they truly can't control their impulses or, they end themselves then yes- I think the moral thing to do would be to prevent themselves from hurting others by whatever means is necessary.

No, no one is morally obligated to do anything. Morals aren't real. Ethics and morals are all just made up, they have no base in reality.

In samurai-era Japanese culture it was certainly thought so. It is completely subjective. Our thought processes are dominated by our cultural upbringing on levels that we cant even comprehend

I feel like I am morally obligated to kill myself because I live with strict family members that want me to marry and have kids. I believe that I am morally obligated to not be a biological parent as I believe in antinatalism. The only way I can avoid my parent's desire to have grandkids is to kill myself. I will run away from home and kill myself if my parents ever get me to procreate. The suffering that I'd go through would be nothing in comparison to what my kid would go through were I to procreate

As others have alluded to here there is no objective morality. plus a human is just a bag of 30 trillion cells, each cell basically the one that evolved billions of years ago.

The only things that matter to me is me avoiding unbearable pain , extreme suffering and then other kinds of suffering and my suicide asap.

it would be morally right of me to kill myself.

I'm an incel so I believe I am absolutely morally obligated to kill myself especially since having other people kill us is too much of a burden for them. Everybody else hates us incels already even if we don't directly hate women and it's only a matter of time before my resentment and bitterness will cause real harm to people anyway.

Even when I try to deny I'm an incel it still keeps causing problems for people like when I had a crush on my coworker all this year which led to me having panic attacks anytime I even saw her. This cycle would likely continue for any other woman I get interested in so rather than subject someone to that, it's better that I just die. Hopefully other incels do this too and do the world a favor. Once we're all dead then maybe finally all the women of the world and all others who've been the victim of having to exist in a world with disgusting freaks like us incels can finally rest easy.

It's a paradox. Hurting people by accident might make non-existence better, but wanting to not exist because of this makes you a caring person. Should a caring person be morally obligated to end their own existence?

Here's a hypothetical scenario:

A genetic engineer working at a secret bioweapons research lab develops a new virus that's 80% lethal in individuals and could wipe out 50% of the world population in 1 year. There is no cure, it's highly contagious, impossible to detect without a specialized test kit, and it's very difficult to contain.

One day the engineer accidentally contracts the virus without realizing it right before they go on vacation in a major global hub city, say London. They get to their hotel room and realize they're coming down with something. Fortunately they have a test kit and use it to determine they're infected with the new virus.

If they go to a hospital the virus will almost certainly spread and trigger a global pandemic. Since there is no cure and it's highly lethal, they'll almost certainly die anyways. The virus can't survive for more than 12 hours outside the body, or for more than 24 hours inside a dead body. So the only way to prevent anybody else from being exposed to the virus is for the engineer to kill themselves in the hotel room, with strict instructions for hotel staff to not enter the room until more than 24 hours after their suicide.

Is the engineer morally obligated to kill themselves? They made a conscious decision to work on extremely dangerous bioweapons knowing something like this could happen, so I think they probably are if that's the only way to prevent a major catastrophe.
