  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

No.

I like alcohol in moderation, but alcoholism is no good for anybody. Don't overdo it.

i'm sorry but this question is really funny to me lmfao like...something that just never crossed my mind would be asking "would severe substance abuse help me?"

Not an alcoholic but as a severe daily stoner who also knows alcoholics, 1. you're just numbing yourself in the moment and that pain will come back (I hate how anxious I feel in therapy cuz it's literally the only time I'm not high) and 2. the sickness and pain if you overdo will only make you want to die more. Granted, much of this is anecdotal so take it with a grain of salt.

...I want a drink now lol

Nah, I'm a heavy drinker and it doesn't make me feel any better. If anything, it makes it worse because now your brain is thinking of your problems more.

If you think alcohol would help you cope daily, try opioids! Actually, don't!!! I tried it, and it made me feel VERY good (or apathetic) for 20% of my day, then tolerance increased and ruined me financially because I had to buy more and more illegal pills to get high and feel apathetic, until I had to seek rehab just to avoid withdrawals (the embodiment of hell on earth!!!). I had to use 110+ mgs of oxycodone daily in only a month just to avoid withdrawals let alone feel euphoric. Matthew Perry (from 'Friends') went up to 1.8 GRAMS!!!... all prescription from his doc! Think about it, an oxy pill high lasts for 6-8 hours while a few drinks last only 1-3 hours. So with alcohol you have to re-dose every 3 hours. It is a bad way to live, so long term ctb is the solution anyway in both opioid addiction and alcoholism (opioid addiction is even more expensive). Both have made my life worse. Not worth the trouble.

alcohol will help you drain your bank account lol

but honestly? i've had a month where i drank alcohol every single day (more than a few a day) and those were probably the best days i've had in months

would it fall under alcoholism? no i wouldnt say so

did it soften the pain? definitely, the part where alcohol made sleeping easier was probably the best effect it had on me

i drank like a miserable person but i slept like a baby

but yea, it'll cost you, it's quite an investment

Everyone reacts differently to alcohol. Some people become really angry, some people become really happy and others feel physically sick
One thing alcoholism does to all alcoholics tho is fuck up their health and drain their bank accounts

it'll probably make you more miserable, esp if you become dependent on it
i wouldn't recommend destroying your body if you have to stick around on this earth for a while longer - being drunk might feel good, but all of your problems will feel 100% worse once the feeling goes away

I got up to drinking a bottle of wine a day. It helps temporarily but then the pain in your heart is far worse afterwards. Nevermind the hangover.
I'm a recovering alcoholic. I don't recommend it. Video games are healthier.

No. Alcohol is a depressant. My grandpa was an alcoholic and he committed suicide. If you're in the recovery forum I'm assuming you want to get better. At least I hope you do. If you want to get better alcoholism definitely is NOT the way to do it. It'll help you work up the courage to CTB but not to recover.

ive had alcohol problems and other addictions on and off and i wouldnt recommend it. if you insist on getting on something i guess id say weed, but thats just personal taste (yes im aware weed is addictive like any other substance). maybe find distractions as an alternative to substances? im not going to judge you, i get it and ive been there, but i personally wouldnt suggest it. its inconvenient at best and the pleasurable feeling of being drunk is short lived and not worth the hangover and other stuff involved

My sister died from alcoholism at the young age of 47. Before that, she got in trouble with the law by getting a DUI, and the penalty was enhanced because she had her kid in the car with her. So if you want to avoid being miserable, don't get into alcoholism, that'd be my advice FWIW.

(Edit) Oh, I forgot to add. There was a time in my early to mid 20's where I started drinking heavily (as heavily as I could while living at my parents' house, anyway, which is the reason why I was drinking heavily), where I remember waking up in a bed soaked in piss. Once I woke up in a pool of vomit. More than once I was so hung over I couldn't eat anything the next day without urping it up. Does that sound pleasant to you?

If you've just got to numb yourself, I'd recommend marijuana, which can cause its own problems, but at least you avoid the hangovers and associated mess.

Alcohol, as well as any drugs are never a solution to feel better permanently. There can be a relief during the "high" but long term and when it ends up in drug abuse you harm yourself even more.

As quite a severe alcoholic over here (hellooo) who, at my worse, could body a 1l of vodka a day and at best just enough to keep the high topped, it's a dangerous slope. But it depends, to be honest. First of all it's a money sink, that's gonna be the biggest drain on you, and second of all you need MAJOR self control for it not to spiral and be surrounded by vomit and maybe even pee too. It's not the most pleasant drug out there, I'd say probably one of the worst. It for sure will make you feel better for a short while, I mean me personally I use it alot to Foster conversations online and irl because I've found tipsy/drunk me is alot more empathetic, enjoys music more, more energetic, kinder, all of that. But there's also been times I've attempted solely due to the influence of alcohol as thought spirals are SO easy with it, and also got into unnecessary fights with people. There's for sure better alternatives out there, alcohol is far too unpredictable in this sense to trust in it to make you feel better

Sorry kinda long lol

No, it will create more problems. Alcohol makes you even more depressed. It's poison.

I was an alcoholic and thought it helped me survive. I honestly think it has done that at times. I was in so much pain.

Short answer, No.
Long answer, Noooooooooo.
Alcohol is a depressant, and can create physical dependencies. You presumably already have enough to deal with in life, don't make it harder on yourself. Stay safe <3.

Better to wake up to the bottle than have nothing to wake up for?

😂

Sorry I have to laugh.

As a heroin addict in recovery, I know that feeling all too well.

na, alcohol only helps for a little while. then you just become dependant on it.
You ever tried to go to a dr and put on anything?
i know xanax and an ssri really helped me years ago, id have offed myself a decade ago if it wasnt for them

Everyone here has made correct points. I have a perspective that runs a little counter but isn't meant to detract from the generally good advice above. I save my drinking for the worst days of my life (deaths and other major losses) and I'd be lying if I said it hasn't been a net positive and probably kept me alive. When my friend died in a gruesome car wreck, I binged for 6 months. 8 beers a day at minimum. I was able to drop it when I was done seriously grieving and haven't relapsed or whatever. However, it sounds like you're thinking of using it to cope with daily suffering and malaise. It would definitely be counterproductive, if that's the case.

I relapsed and drank half a bottle earlier this evening. I regret it. Here I am lying awake at night unable to sleep, having to get up early tomorrow, chugging boatloads of water, a bad case of acid reflux, and terrible guilt.

no.
i'm currently laying on my mold covered floors with a bottle of vodka and drinking it raw from the bottle and i want nothing more than to shove the glass bottle down my throat and let it shatter.
it will make your life a million times worse, so please do not use alcohol to cope.
wishing you the best.

Ngl the happiest ive been was 1 month where i was drinking every day (and only sleeping every other day so every day was 48 hours long. this was partially to save money but im ngl idk if it did of not). it felt good but was too expensive and unsustainable, so now i only drink when it gets super bad and im just like "fuck it i cant handle this any more"

tldr probably no unless you have disposable income and even then its only really temporary
