Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has considered using deadly nightshade (Atropa belladonna) as a method? All parts of the plants are poisonous and seeds are easy to obtain (whereas getting SN seems less reliable/easy). I've read a couple case studies about people committing suicide with this but it's hard to find information about exactly how lethal it is.

I'm not sure how reliable this is but
Source ChatGpt:
Nightshade (specifically Atropa belladonna, or deadly nightshade) is very lethal—even small amounts can be fatal.

Here's how toxic it is:

  • Berries: As few as 2–5 berries can kill a child; 10–20 berries can kill an adult.
  • Leaves/roots: Just a single leaf can be deadly, depending on size and individual sensitivity.

Why it's dangerous:

Nightshade contains tropane alkaloids like:
  • Atropine
  • Scopolamine
  • Hyoscyamine

These interfere with the nervous system by blocking acetylcholine receptors, which leads to:
  • Dilated pupils
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Hallucinations
  • Delirium
  • Seizures
  • Coma
  • Death (usually from respiratory failure)
Even skin contact with the plant's oils can cause effects in sensitive people.

TL;DR:
It's not just poisonous—it's potently and efficiently toxic. Definitely not something to mess with.

That's a slow and agonizing death.

Imo not recommended.

A lot more people would use this a method if it was peaceful.

All parts of Atropa bella-donna are very poisonous, though the seeds are less poisonous than the leaves and berries. (Were you planning to grow it?) About 10 berries could be fatal, though the amount of toxic substances probably varies considerably from one plant to another, and a person's susceptibility to the toxins will also vary. So the number of berries that would certainly be fatal is probably considerably more than 10. The berries are not unpleasant to eat. However, the process of dying is somewhat unpleasant. (It doesn't send you peacefully to sleep.) If you take a fatal dose, death is likely to follow within hours, and is almost certain within 24 hours. There is an antidote, so if you change your mind after ingesting it, you might be able to survive.

I was planning on just eating the seeds since growing it until it produces berries would take a while, 2-3 years, and might be difficult (and maybe suspicious) indoors. I've seen other nightshade products online but figured plain seeds would be the most reliable, and even if they're not as poisonous as the berries enough would hopefully still do the trick.

I know it wouldn't be the most peaceful death but it would at least be over within a day, and I don't expect most methods to be pleasant anyways... I do also have opioids (not enough to kill me which is why I'm not going with those) which may help make the dying less painful?

Symptoms include delirium, extreme hallucinations, severe dry mouth, blurry vision, urinary retention, tachycardia, hyperthermia, seizures, and in higher doses, coma. The experience is often described as terrifying and chaotic, not peaceful. Survival is common, even in large doses, and treatment with physostigmine can reverse symptoms if medical help arrives in time.

Please pick a more sensible and peaceful way to die. There are so many better ways to do it.

Yes, the seeds would work, if you get the dose right. You would probably absorb the toxins more effectively if you grind the seeds up finely first.
