• If you haven't yet, we highly encourage you to check out our Recovery Resources thread!
  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

What are the potential downfalls of deliberately disassociating from reality during difficult times? Casually indulging in a fantasy imaginary world or simply pretending your life isn't real just to get by?

In other words, just full on maladaptive daydreaming when stressed or intentional derealization?

the most obvious problem is the difficulty in pulling it off because stress causes you to be more aware of your surroundings/situation, and low points can make you more focused on the bad parts of your current condition rather than the positives and what you can change.

but if you could pull it off, would this be the key to persisting in a life full of pretty much nothing but struggle and pain?

maybe some of you have considered this or use this as a coping mechanism. has it worked for you? have you tried to make it work? do you disagree with it as a tool for recovery? i'd be interested to hear any thoughts on this matter.

It works until it doesn't. Then you can use drugs ketamine, pcp, mxe etc and that'll work until it doesn't.

yeah, understandable. i don't do drugs, but i've done it the good old fashioned "imagining you're somewhere else doing something else" way, and it quite literally works until it doesn't work, and then you're just left feeling very silly. until the next time it DOES work, and then you think you've got the golden ticket and figured out how to "do it right".

It gets to the point where you are basically just pushing everything you are trying not to feel down. It all comes back up at some point.
