Do you guys have anything that you watch thats your go-to for things like comfort or goting to sleep?

Me personally i have a few movies i like quite a lot such as Sea Beast and My Fathers Wish Dragon. I also frequently watch Smii7y and Seanie Dew when i want to just turn my brain off or go to bed. Re-watching 100% (insert game) videos and lets plays are nice to watch for me because they're engaging but not enough to fully distract me since ive watched it multiple times before.

I have two films I used to watch over and over in childhood that I'll return to if I feel really bad. I used to watch them when the person in my childhood who bullied me into feeling suicidal would be out. It was one of the few times I felt safe. They work the best through nostalgia and association.

I have other things though. Songs/ soundtracks I find reassuring. Food. I often re-watch box sets/ films or, simply have them on in the background. I suppose I spend a great deal of time trying to comfort myself through. Even certain smells can be reassuring. It's like nursing/ coaxing myself through life.

Yes. Listening to videos, sometimes watching, distracts me from my own thoughts, helping my mind drift off faster than if I were to be alone with my own thoughts in bed. I mainly watch animated series while trying to fall asleep: The Simpsons (S1-10), Futurama, American Dad, Bob's Burgers, King of The Hill, and Adventure Time. At some point it's more about hearing familiar voices than following the story.

Recently, I watch comedy sketches of André van Duin while falling asleep, and sometimes Rowan Atkinson. And when it's time for a change, I'll start to recycle all the animated series again.

This reminds me of a funny post I read. Sometimes I know lines by heart, reciting them shortly before the scene comes up. But I don't have enough memory to recite entire episodes or movies like this person.

As a little kid, I was SOOOOOO damn obsessed with Shrek. I mean the kind of obsessed where I'd watch it over and over again days in a row. It was all I ever wanted to watch. It got to the point where I had memorised it word-for-word, and beat-for-beat. This meant that, somehow, I could watch it in my head—timed perfectly. No fast forwarding, no skipping. Now this was fine for car trips and such, because my dad would be like "Hey do you want some colouring-in to do?" And I'd be like "Nah, I'm going to watch Shrek in my head." Occasionally my dad would ask where I was up to in the movie—just to check on me. You're probably thinking Huh that's weird but cool I guess? Wrong. Sort of. It got so bad that I'd watch it in my head at night before I went to sleep. My dad would literally check on me at night, notice I was blankly staring up at the ceiling, and have to yell "Stop watching Shrek and go to sleep!" I cant remember how this faded from being one of my abilities, but it sure was cool while it lasted. But for a while, Shrek really WAS my life.

For comfort TV/movies, I always watch Titan A. E. or TNG. For YouTube, I like DougDoug. He does some crazy stuff in his gaming streams and his chat is hilarious. I fall asleep to his stuff quite often unless Doug and chat are on a roll and then I end up laughing instead of sleeping.

Gun videos. Boss fight videos from games like Elden Ring, Bloodborne. Investment videos. There's nothing I don't watch on YouTube basically.

Maybe I'm odd but I love depressing existential brooding shit like Mr Robot, Severance, Westworld, Bojack Horseman, Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist OG, Made in Abyss, Akira. Comforts me in a sense of relating to the content. Wes Anderson films aoso tend to be filled with soothing enui fav being Grand Budapest Hotel and French Dispatch. Soviet stuff I grew up with is pretty comforting as well. Ordinary Miracle, 12 Chairs miniseries and the black and white Little Golden Calf. YouTube I like to try to zone out to long lore videos, speedruns, playthroughs of fav games I lack the energy to play myself anymore many of which are also somewhat depressing like Death Stranding, Silent Hill, Max Payne, Alan Wake as well as more fun unique stuff like Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Tearaway, Psychonauts

i usually find comfort in characters that bear resemblance to me so these are the stuff i circle back to when my mental health is tanking:

movies – my broken mariko (i resonate a lot with mariko)
series – my name (korean), little women (korean)
anime – vanitas no carte (especially the dominique de sade part)
albums/songs – preacher's daughter by ethel cain, golden age by ethel cain
youtube videos – any stardew valley gameplay, any elden ring stream by nimi nightmare

other stuff i do to find comfort is eating banana bread (my favorite!) and just going to a coffeeshop to let the numbness go away.

I enjoy re-watching Wentworth (Australia drama about women in prison).

Honestly, I watch it because the acting is so goddamn good and it's refreshing to see women pushing themselves to such limits.

Series: Shkola (2010), Hannibal & Tokyo Ghoul.

And I am nostalgic for Willcraft's Monster School, which is a Minecraft YouTube series I watched as a child.

Ever since I was a little kid I've loved to take things apart to see how they work. This has carried in into adulthood, and even though it's not what I do for a profession, I love to fix things from basic electrics like waffle irons all the way to complex electronics like repairing my own cellphone.

So, with that bit of context out of the way, one of my current favourite YouTube channels is of this English bloke called Mend it Mark who takes apart and fixes electronics. He's obviously not everyone's cup of tea, but if you're also into fixing electronics he's a blast.
