• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

i don't think you will ever be immortal because these atoms don't belong to us, we live in a universe where nothing truly belongs to anything and everything is vulnerable to fragmentation, atoms don't belong to each other they stay together because of attraction forces but these forces are inadequate as other atoms can interact with them breaking them apart
the one thing any human being wants is whatever it is that makes them what they are belongs to them but in a environment like this where nothing belongs to anything everything eventually disintegrate the environment is fundamental problem always been always will be uploading your conscious to a computer is nothing but a fantasy, brains need chemicals to exist a computer is just math,

The adult human brain weighs about 3 pounds (1,300-1,400 g).
The adult human brain is about 2% of the total body weight.
The average human brain is 140 mm wide. 140,000000
The average human brain is 167 mm long. 167,000000
The average human brain is 140 mm height. 140,000000

3,273,200,000,000,000,000,000,000 nm in the human brain

Moore's "law," which forecasts processor power will double every two years,

103,582,791,429,521,400,000 instructions per sec,
2,589,569,785,738,035,000 transistor count by 2071

even if we can keep moore's law going into 2071 a single cpu would only have 2,589,569,785,738,035,000 transistors far short of what is need to upload a human mind

Seen as the sun will explode at some point, living forever is impossible.

'Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin never died. They simply became music.'

Beautiful quote from the HBO series: Westworld.

So- in a physical sense- in terms of being alive forever- I doubt it. Still, in terms of what we leave behind- some may achieve near immortal status. Maybe AI will continue to love Elvis. Maybe they'll preserve the best and worst examples of humanities achievements some place for aliens to find.

Maybe some parts of us will always exist in some form. Surely, water can't be destroyed as such. It just changes form. We're made up of 50-75% water.

not in the sense that many desire, spending eternity conscious on the earth. But perhaps there is a more spiritual realm out there mirroring this physical one, and the essence of all living beings return to it once they pass on from the physical realm. I'd much prefer that to being a voice on a computer screen or a robot forever.

Either ways I don't think humanity is trending towards being around long enough to obtain eternal consciousness on this planet.

When it comes to technological advancements, never say never. I think maybe someday we can extend the natural life of a human but living forever will never happen. Imagine dying because of a hard drive failure in a data center somewhere lol. The future is now

Classic Jester response !
And, in reply to the original query, I so hope not.

Science and tech is just mechanics. Life/consciousness is still a mystery although it is obviously extremely malleable depending on chemical reactions that alter the mechanics. I have no idea if it would ever be possible but I do think some version of transhumanism might get very close. I would only want that if I knew I could trust the people/computers that oversee it and would still have the option of dying sometime in the future if I wanted to.

Virtually immortal, yes. Completely immortal, no because it's not possible. But we could very likely end up in a situation where everyone chooses death because they are board of life after thousands of years.

Even in an android body like Ghost in the Shell or Chappie, we'll still be depressed and want out. There will be new CTB methods for our android brains like the big junk yard magnet method, or the homemade EMP method.
