  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

I found a small book on positive thinking that goes over a lot of things, but I've always scoffed at positive thinking because it's so opposite to the way I've always thought.

I'm a severely negative person because my life situations have often predisposed me to thinking negatively.

Rather than think about it as positive thinking, think about it as retraining yourself. Even if you switch from negative to objective that's a set in the right direction.

Negative thinking has often been reported as more realistic than positive thinking.

I wonder whether the brain thinks negatively when it has been hurt/damaged. I am hypothesizing about dealing with suicidal thinking as a brain injury/MS

It can but u have to drill the shit out of positive thoughts many times a day with headphones and preferably you are listening to some type of hypnosis positive affirmations. I was making these on my phone with my voice and after a few days I noticed I was thinking better but then external events and emotional flashbacks pulled me away from doing them and I haven't lost the progress but I'm finding out that before I can stick to that I need to get control of the flashbacks.

I could add an example of one of my affirmations I made into the audios but my voice is so bad lol! The reason it works when u listen to the new thoughts is because it goes into the subconscious after lots of repetition of the new programming. 90% of whatever u think about today will be the same tomorrow so if u can interrupt the negative thoughts with new thoughts u will notice more when the inner critic wants to slide into destructive thoughts. I wasn't even aware of how negative my unconscious inner critic was until I started to fight back against it.

Dunno.
But, whenever a thought is sprouting to deal damage I cut it out or nip it in the bud.
Just clearing my mind and continuously exercising taming, managing and processing your thoughts.

In general, I don't think it's possible to simply change just like 'snap, decision made, done' Sure, you can make a decision to change but the change itself takes a long time to implement. Whether it be eating healthily, exercising or thinking positively. There's a road ahead with any decision.

I also think it's a little confusing (and too simple) to talk about positive v negative thoughts. The thoughts we have are our own and I don't think you should try and suppress them by labelling them negative. Besides, I don't think you even have the power to stop thoughts cropping up. What you can do though is learn to accept them for what they are; that is, neither positive nor negative but simply something that you think. You can contextualise your thoughts though; understand perhaps why you think that, where the thought came from, understanding maybe what influenced it or kicked it off. For me, I think the key thing is to not feel that there is some compulsion to act upon a thought. It can simply stay there in your head as a thought - and don't judge yourself for having certain thoughts.

No such thing as a negative thought - but there is, in any given context, a negative action. So sometimes respect and restraint needs to be exercised over your thoughts.

But I'd say go one step further and explore your thinking. Let yourself think all manner of things, indeed encourage it, just to see how you react. Test yourself, go into areas in your mind that you might not otherwise. Review your own reactions to your thoughts and try to understand why you've responded as you have. It can lead to some very revealing insights! Your own head is about the only place where you can really be free so run free, play and enjoy it!

(But then, I would say all of that. I enjoy playing in - and with - my head! I go everywhere... and I don't need drugs to do it either!!)

It would be completely easy if the planet were not so mucked up. As it is, I find it exhausting to constantly be unrealistic so that I do not hurt my brain any more

Risks to CBT?
I just threw that disclaimer in there to be cautious since I haven't done much research. I'm not sure if any risks have been found.
