Does personally sawing off a shotgun barrel make it about as effective as a sawed-off that was manufactured that way?

Or does it mess up the weapon and hinder the possibility of effective suicide in some way?

That's where the name comes from, it's just a regular shotgun with a shorter barrel. Feel free to saw it off, that being said I know that sawed-off shotguns are illegal in certain places, just keep that in mind
