• Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Just came across this story about dogs commiting suicide. The bridge ones in Scotland are particularly interesting.

Omg! I didn't think dogs committed suicide but given that they become dependent and very attached to owners I guess I can understand they experience distress. Now they got no pack, got adjusted to the domestic life and now they don't know how to deal.

I don't know the mechanism behind it but some bird species can die of loneliness. May be related

Wow until now I honestly thought suicide was a human species only phenomena.

If it's in some species nature to have a sub population suicidal then what evolutionary purpose does that fill? :notsure:

These are two instances that I know of involving a dolphin and an orca.
I think it's well documented how orcas respond negatively in captivity.

Thats what I think, too. Suicide is clearly a human behavior.

There is no evolutionary purpose for suicide. Evolution only explains genetic/biochemistry adaptation to the environment. Humans got very intelligent trough genetic mutations. Thanks rhis intelligence we can do also things, which evoltion no directly has forseen.

I think in an earlier thread there was a discussion that apparently dolphins can commit suicide if they're kept in captivity.

A thing I noticed that it seems like the more intelligent animals (dolphins, orcas, some birds, etc.) are capable of wanting to commit suicide. I'm not saying every single suicidal person is a super special genius or anything but it's kind of interesting.
