anyone been thru ECT? I've witnessed a patient going thru it in school and it looked horrible, barbaric. Anyone been thru it personally? What's it like?
Not personally but my father has. You actually don't even remember getting it from what my father says. He would go in the morning to get it and he would forget most of what happened during the mornings before getting it. It ended up not helping him at all though.
Yea I witnessed it and it just looked bad. When I got into nursing school I didn't think they did shit like that. Then I had to follow a patient thru it and she was like fried after it but didn't remember it. They give u something to paralyze u first (to minimize convulsions) but they put a blood pressure cuff around the bottom part of the leg and blow it up so it prevents the paralytic from entering that part so they can tell ur convulsing. Crazy shit lol
Yes I have had it. Both unilateral (what they usually do now... only one side of the brain) and bilateral (old school). I never should have had it. I was misdiagnosed. They put you under with general anesthesia then do it. I have almost no memories from that time period. It took a lot out of me.
