  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

What are your thoughts?
I have read read both pros and cons of such therapy. Still not sure if I should go with it but I kinda really don't care if it somehow really changes me or fucks me up. I heard it might make me feel better. I would love to hear some stories about such therapy and how things went after it.

I was offered ECT too. But I was reluctant because I believe it can really destroy your memory. I tried to get as much info as I could on it before I made a decision and honestly, I still don't know if I made the right choice by refusing. What if it really could make a positive difference? But everyone needs to do what feels right for them. Knowledge is power, so I think by gathering info it puts you in a more informed position. Good luck on this journey and i'd be keen to know what you eventually decide.

Thing that kind of scares me is the small amount of knowledge gathered about such treatment and from what I read, mechanism of why it works isn't really known. There is a large history of medical help which turned out to be dealing damage in some other aspects to the users. In the end I still would give it a try, idea of not feeling as bas as now is real good. I'm ready to risk pretty anything at this point to feel better, I guess I don't have anything to loose. I will try to post results in some time.

Good luck and I really hope it goes well for you. Do you know how many treatments you'll be getting? It seems that they really don't know the mechanics of how it works, but for some people it really seems effective.

It's my first day in hospital (but third time here :/ ) and from tomorrow I will be getting new meds, there is really high propability they won't work cuz I seem to be ressitnet to even hard meds treatment in past. The numer of ES sessions is never really known and it's kind of see how it goes always. For some people 3 sessions are enough for others even numbers as high as 20. (2 to 3 sessions per week, daaamn, 20 is sessions need a lot of time).

Dumbest thing a person can do is believe electroshock therapy is real therapy. I would advise not doing such a thing and even file a complaint against the person who advised it. The "treatment" is pseudoscience and nothing else.

I had it done a few years ago. I forgot a lot of stuff from the time I had it. I think the lasting effect it has had is not enjoying a lot of things anymore, like TV, video games, books.

I received electroshock therapy about 10 years ago. First 7 unilateral shocks and then bilateral. After a total of 11 applications, I developed cardiac arrhythmia under anesthesia and the therapy had to be stopped. It didn't help. It was another try. But it was less spectacular than I thought. I had no amnesia.

I've had ECT, one lot was 7 sessions, the other 12. I know I've lost some memories but that's only because when friends/ family talk about something in the past I have absolutely no recollection of. To be honest the best thing I got from ECT was the general anaesthetic- it's great because you have no awareness and don't dream. I think it's the closest to experiencing what it would be like to be dead.

For what it's worth: A psychiatrist I discussed treatment with said that if he would suffer a serious depression himself, he would opt for ECT without a moment's hesitation. I haven't had ECT myself, though.
