Disclaimer I'm writing this slightly tipsy, while my brain is is starting to 100miles an hour - which feels really weird cos on the other end of the spectrum my new meds are making me reallllly tired - its like one big contradiction on my head. Anyway my point was sorry if this doesnt make sense:

So somthing that really frustrates me is how aparently now is the time that sucicide prevention should happen. When someone has suffered to the brink and have made their descison to end it. That is the time people, the authorties, the whoevers say no stop your not allowed to go ahead. I'm afraid your just gonna have to live the life that you dont want to live.

Preventing someone from doing it, just before they do it isnt real sucide prevention - it's just agony extenders. Real suicide prevention comes before a person reaches the brink.

That comes in multiple way, but each way humanity fails and thus pushes people to sucide:

It's people just ignoring climate change and happy to allow the world burn for their children and grand children if it makes them £5 cheaper now. The ignorant can live thru forgetting this fact. Other people are more aware and may not want to watch a world where we destroy it. Sucide prevention isnt forcing that person to watch the world burn, it's frickin saving the planet.

It's the goverment letting the rich people blackmail the country. Sorry the disabled and unwell, but you will no longer be able to afford butter on your bread, becuase Mr Monopoly needs a new a boat. Oh you too mentally unwell to work? Well tough, we just going to pretend your illness isnt cripling. Whats that your too hungry, work is too much and you just want the dignity to end it now. Well tough here is the anti-sucide brigade to stop you. Except their not, there just agony extender - sucide prevention would be treating the disabled and unwell with respect.

What's that your transgender, well good news there is a whole social media in twitter designed to mock and belittle you. Were going to strip away puberty blockers so you dont pass when your older. Then the transphobic community can mock you, call you horrible things, campaign to strip away your rights to live. You feel you cant live, whole communities preventing you from living, people trying to dictate who you should be... so you decide to end it. Well here comes the anti-sudicede brigade to stop you...your not allowed to die now - it's not your choice.. you have to live to be miserable. Except they are not anti suciders, they are agony extenders - anti-sucicide is treating people from all walks of life with respect.

The list could go on an on and on.... but my brain too foggy now to think of any lol. But the fact is simple human kind is so shitty to each other, the planet, to animals, and that right there is the pro-sucide. The people who push people to be on the brink in the first place.

I'm tired of hearing shit about place where people just understand each other and respect their choices. Yes obviously members share methods etc, that's just part of respecting their choice to stop, it's not encouragement. Yes they may have family who will be hurt if they pass, but that is their descision. People call it selfish to commit sucide, but it's just selfish desires to keep someone alive who doesnt want to be. People dont stop others for the person benifit they do it for the benifit of the others around them - regardless how the sucidal person feels. I feel like I have been bludgeoned with guilt from my therapist - but my descion to be around still for the fam, is my choice and I respect if someone elses choice if different. We should all respect that is the persons life, and part of life is death which is natural - and it should be natural to allow someone to choose their own time of passing.

I hope this makes sense, cba to proof read lol

Totally agree. Your tipsy brain at 100m an hour is spitting facts. Suicide prevention in its later stages can be a good thing only if its supported by a system that provides good mental health services, actual help, and resources to those most affected. Because there is a lot of people who just need that. But a lot of times it's just pat on the back and back to the horror house you cog. The system is actively pushing those people there by sheer greed and dehumanization. There is this idea intoxicating those with economic power that every dollar spent on just trying and making people suffer less is a dollar lost, with no gains, while you can exploit them to their desperate deaths and wait for a new batch of suckers for profit. They'll never run out of excuses to make it your problem. It's the whole system and we've got little but eachother. And that can do some days and others we loose good people. But we can never allow them to make us feel the guilt that should be theirs to begin with. I'm tipsy also, is it apparent ? I don't care. Fuck that machine, love the cogs. And you take care <3

The system waits until the edge to step in. Not when someone's drowning in bills, discrimination, hunger, chronic illness, climate dread, or pure, relentless exhaustion. No, it only shows up when you're inches from the end and then it pretends to care. It's PR. It's liability protection. It's society covering its own ass and calling it compassion.

Real suicide prevention happens upstream as you said. It's housing. It's access to healthcare. It's food. It's autonomy. It's not slapping someone in restraints at the last second and calling that "saving a life." It's not forcing trans people to live under constant abuse and then acting shocked when they don't want to be here anymore. It's not abandoning the disabled and then feigning empathy when they say they've had enough.

The part that really makes me laugh is that I know that when I die in a few months, the system will suddenly find its voice. "She was ill." "Why didn't she reach out?" "She was so loved." They'll cry about mental health and chronic illness. They'll add a hotline number to the bottom of some fucking article. But where were they when I couldn't afford to eat? When I couldn't access treatment? When I said I was done?

Calling people selfish for wanting out of this mess is just projection. What's actually selfish is demanding someone continue to suffer so others don't have to grieve. You can grieve and respect someone's right to choose. Those two things aren't opposites.

Thanks for writing this.
