Starting March 21st, 2025, IT specialists in Russia are no longer safe from military drafts.
When the war had started, a lot of programmers etc fled the country, but I was not financially able to do that, so I stayed. And due to the sudden deficit of IT specialists, the Russian governmment decided to allow accredited IT companies' employees to not have to go through mandatory 1 year long military service. But starting March 21st, 2025, the situation is changing and for most companies only 75% of employees can be exempt; the other ones have to go through the traditional process of serving.
I am both afraid of and despise war, military, army, soldiers, you name it. I am a die hard pacifist and I hate that the military service is mandatory and that my government is leading a war, censoring our speech and freedom of actions. My last resort was the fact that I would be able to legally avoid serving in the military until I was 30 (which is the age after which you're no longer eligible), but this is not the case. I still have some years to live until I'm 30 and I'm already fucked.
The only reason why I could be ineligible is if I was found to have any severe mental illness. But I'm pretty sure I don't. So this is the final nail in the coffin, ensuring that I either ctb in a couple years, or manage to move to a different country in-between the drafts, live a couple years and ctb there. At this point, though, honestly, I can't be bothered enough to try and survive until that.
