  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

does anyone have any tips for getting any mental health help while absolutely fuck-ass broke. i need eating disorder treatment and i dont know how to go about the costs if i decide this is something i wanna go through with. i gave myself 3 years before i commit to killing myself and in that time iwant to try to get better but its really hard when you're stupid and fucking useless and a hermit and have no concept of taking care of yourself, so i think i need help.

Are you American? I ask because sometimes there are sliding pay scale clinics or sometimes state funded clinics. When I was unemployed I was able to do 5$ visits to a place due to my lack of income. This was in a conservative state too.

That is my only advice. Google mental health places in your area and call around asking if any do sliding pay scale for low income/no income people.

You might want to try various churches. Sometimes they have groups like AA or Alanon meet in their facilities. They might know of other groups that could help as well.

To add to what others have said, charities have been helpful in my experience looking for eating disorder/mental illness charities and getting on a bunch of waiting lists for free/discounted groups or other treatments. Just don't tell them that you've signed up to other charities, some are quite defensive about the people they admit.

depending on where you live, there are government programs for therapy (usually with long waitlists) but if you go into a psych ward you can skip the waitlist generally because you are at risk. Not saying you should do this but it is an option depending on where you're from. Also, a social worker may be able to help get you the resources you need.

Group therapy is usually the cheapest way to have someone to talk to, though it might not be able to offer specific support for ED.

If you're in the UK just tell your GP that you planned to kill yourself and you might be able to skip to the front of the queue for NHS mental health treatment, for free of course.

There's a free anonymous mental health chat line I use, though the waiting times can be 3 hours. (It's open from 9-24 so if you go there in the morning you might only have to wait for 5 minutes, during evenings it's 3 hours.) Maybe there's one in your country. The mental health chat has been much nicer than my previous psychologists.

There's also an app where people can discuss with other people who can gone through the same, they are paired with mentors. That's free too, though I don't know if it exists in other countries. And I have never used it.

Search the net, everything is there these days. Youtube might have videos about it too. Videos from professional psychologists about eating disorders and from people who have recovered from it.

And now that you have eaten this post with your eyes, go eat something with your mouth. Healthy food.

It's Ylitse, though it's only in Finnish I'm afraid. But Finns are really good at English, so maybe you can find an English speaker there (and at least the app appears to be in English language too, there's screenshots of English pages). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ylitse&hl=fi&gl=US

English mental health chats:
https://www.suicidestop.com/suicide_prevention_chat_online.html (you can find chat there in English and other languages, and speak of other things than suicide too)

Googling I found this:

And this:
They have an online chat too.

Some great advice on this thread :: use it!
If you're desperate pls try a 12step meeting, there are loads:
YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
you can attend online zoom meetings though its best to go in person; u will learn sumthin from everyone there. if you're broke and can't get transport there someone may even collect you - depends on where you located & yr being ok with asking for help...
If I may id like to share sum advice if unthinking of anonymous therapy...
It was given to me over time and has benefitted me beyond measure.
look for similarities rather than differences and find a group you're comfortable with ( I prefer wisdom of AA vs NA, though NA peeps are often more candid with their 'stuff'. Your level of interaction is up to you. Someone there may know a therapist, though I'm a fan of group therapy (truthful, non-enabling and experienced) inspite of initial reservations and my social distancing,
they will help u remap yr thinking, which is critical to recovery. If u pay attention. Don't judge. I time u will resonate with their shares / struggles.
don't trip on the higher power stuff, not enuff of an excuse not to ,earn & grow!?! I'm monstrously messed up, but without NA I would be totally unmanageable.
Give it a try,
