  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

I haven't been online in a while and I had a question about bridges. This goes back to the classics, Coronado (San Diego) vs Golden Gate (San Francisco). I live in SoCal so obviously Coronado is closer but Golden Gate is appealing because of that glorious 98% success rate for suicide. Should I go for the classic Golden Gate and take a bus up to SF, or should I take the easy way with the Coronado?

Up to you guys. Let me know what method you'd recommend.

What's the success rate for Coronado? I saw the figure of 407 deaths, though I don't know how many jumped but lived. Till just now I didn't even know Coronado existed, as the #2 suicide bride is entirely ignored by the rest of the nation.

I don't know about #2. I think NYC has some pretty solid bridges. Golden Gate really steals the show.

The Coronado has a 'clearance height' of 61m which is the same as the bridge near me The Lions Gate, which is my backup plan, the GG is 67m. There don't appear to be any stats I can find on the lethality of the bridges beyond the GG which like you said is 98%. Not sure how much the 6 meters would matter.......idk

I live close to the Coronado. I actually went up there (sober) and looked over the edge. I've said it before, the urge but not the will comes over you.
I'm partial to Golden gate though because it snuck into me. Id just have to be high as all living fuck to get myself to jump. It's my dream though

if i'm not wrong the coronado bridge is only around 60m high. for me this would be too risky, especially because you jump on water.

lostallhope quote:
"The most important factor in suicide by jumping is height. Stone2 states that jumping from 150 feet (46 metres) or higher on land, and 250 feet (76 metres) or more on water, is 95% to 98% fatal. 150 feet/46 metres, equates to roughly 10 to 15 stories in a building, depending on the height of one story. 250 feet is the height of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. " (http://lostallhope.com/suicide-methods/jumping-high-building)

Wikipedia says that the GG is around 220m high. sounds enough for your purpose to me. But on the other hand i read (don't remember where) a lot about security measures taken at the GG to prevent people from jumping.

In general, for your plans i would prefer GG because of its hard fact height. but as its known as a hotspot i think that one should be aware that at the GG its more likely that there are security measures than at any other bridge that is not so well known as a hotspot.

The rooftop pool in San Francisco (27th floor) from Dirty Harry is still open. IDK if they offer day passes or you have to get a room at the hotel. But unless you're super poor you should be able to pay for a night there.

IDK why nobody in San Francisco ever jumps from that pool area, especially since it got publicity from a somewhat famous movie. Since the jump would be onto land rather than water, it would have an even higher success rate than jumps from Golden Gate do.

That's the tower height. The deck height is less than 70m.

Appar ntly the Coronado bridge has spikes to prevent suicide. Has anyone seen these? Is it possible to jump over them?
