When one suffers from chronic mental or physical illness—there is no hope for a decent future in most cases.
One likely will never have a successful career or be able to work sufficiently, not be able to have a nice home independently, and if anything will likely struggle to secure the bare minimum through government assistance. You do not have a professional or social life like healthy people which in our society is a requirement for dignity and decency.
All of this leads to an extremely hopeless and lonely existence that makes suicide very appealing.
