I graduated from community college a few months ago (though haven't gotten my diploma yet due to the graduation being in May, though it looks like there might not be one due to Corona). I'm trying to get back into college for the other 2 years, but I might take a longer break to work on my mental health. To be honest though, college actually stressed me out more even though it gave me structure, it made me more suicidal because I can be a perfectionist at times.

What do you want to do? What do you enjoy doing? Do you know anyone working anywhere that could get you job? Fast-food is always hiring; it sucks, but they take anyone.

If you're good at manual labor, apply to a staffing agency or Amazon; they'll hand you a job. If you think you could talk to people all day long, maybe customer service or something entry-level in the insurance industry (eligibility specialist, FMLA specialist, intake coordinator) might be a good fit for you? Sales?

Unfortunately, your experience is pretty common place now. There's nothing wrong with you. That's just how the world is now, for whatever reason. Additionally, with all of this coronavirus stuff going on, there's not a lot people currently hiring, and you're having to compete against a lot of people that are currently out of work and are applying to the exact same positions that you are.

When I graduated, it took me about 6 months to land a job that paid 12k a year. I was working with special needs children in a job that required a bachelors degree (Yes, I know a job that required a BA only paid 12k a year). It took me another 6-8 months to land a job where I was earning enough money to support myself. This was a job in a manufacturing plant where I stacked stacks of paperboard on a pallet for 8-12 hours a day. About a year after landing that job, I landed a job at another manufacturing plant as a supervisor trainee. I stayed there for another year or so. I'm still lost; I'm trying to go back to school to make a career change, but I'm losing motivation fast. I'm frustrated more than anything, because I know I can do a lot more than stack boxes on pallets and push buttons on machines, but there's just no demand for anything better unless you have a highly-specialized degree combined with experience.

I remember applying everywhere. Hundreds upon hundreds of applications over the span of years to only receive 10 or so interviews. It's just tough out there. Honestly, the best way to get a job is through someone that already works at that company.

Hi there, I graduated 5 years ago(barely b/c of depression) and haven't used my degree one bit.

I thought my life was going a certain way and then it turns out it wasn't, or at least things didn't turn out the way I planned for them to. Honestly all my hopes and dreams just came to nothing.

I worked at Trader Joe's immediately after graduating and now I work at a bakery. I don't have it figured out and don't necessarily have the answer to your question, just know that you are not alone:heart:

I dropped out in highschool. Lack of edumacation is not the same party that it started out as.

I find Trader Joe's a fascinating buissness. It felt like a cult. I have heard that they are very private and that any reports on there operation is speculation. It seemed to me that you had to like jam bands to be hired. I really loved having one in my hood though it made traffic awful. The one I shopped at was so tight in space that I have no clue how you would social distance. That was on the east coast. The one closest to me in the mid west is gynormous.
I would cherish to hear about your experience.

I didn't pass my degree. I was the first person in the history of my university to leave university accommodation not knowing where I was going to spend the night; ended up homeless for just over 8 months. Not had any paid work ever since!

I didn't cope, and still am not coping.

Hey everyone i just woke up . The weather is lovely in the UK.

I am so sorry.

I dont think you are the first people in history to leave your uni accomdation not knowing where you are staying

Lots of university students are struggling and struggle to admit it.

Student espcially those who leave university homeless is more common than people think.

Well done for graduating college. You should be proud of yourself. College is not easy. More people drop out of college and university it just it not discussed much in society.

It good to work on your mental health.

I heard graduation ceremonies are being cancelled. I feel so bad for anyone graduating in 2020.

Everyday I feel like I have messed up my life.

I had an opportunity to do a part time job in a church set up by this woman but i turned it down due to fear of messing up and being needy . I did a palcement at university at a citizens advice ( a charity that gives people advice on various issues)and it went awfully wrong. I had clients walk away from me as i was poor at advising, i was needy always asking my supervisors for help. After the experience i lost all confidence in myself . I began panicking and started distancing myself from people

I regret all my choices in my life as my birthday approaches

Computing is hard but look on the bright side at least you will have a job as the industry is in the demand due to the rise of Artifical intellegence.
If i was in secondary school again i would workerd harder in IT.

School never made IT interesting and i found it hard to keep up with everyone

I remember the feeling of that mad rush to finals. Study, memorise, learn, then churn it all out and then...Nothing. Just when I was beginning to understand it all. Nada.
I spent a month drunk then went on volunteer excavations and drank then went to work overseas and drank there. I forget how many places I lived or who with. I was an itinerant archaeologist for the rest of the year.
But for me jobs were thick on the ground in those days so I worked in my chosen profession and got stable work when I returned home too.
After graduating though I spent at least a year still in student mode not worrying about the future or where I'd live or anything, just travelling and taking whatever crap jobs o could.
It's different now. Harder to find work and the plague isn't helping. I was lucky. I've no idea how I'd cope with the current climate.

Everyone messes up when they're working a job. That's how you learn how to your job correctly/ better. Don't let that fear keep you from working. I'd be more worried about working with someone who doesn't make mistakes lol

It was a good experience. It's a very good place to work. Full benefits, paid time off, and just a great place to work in general. Yea, you just have to be a friendly, hard working person to get hired. Unfortunately I was terminated due to my depression (I wasn't friendly or smiley enough and they got customer complaints about it :/).
Thanks

I'm so sorry. Trader Joe's is a grocery store a lot like Whole Foods, except cheaper. It's a very good place to work.
What are you good at or what skill sets do you have? What do you like to do? I'm sure there's something out there for you, even if you don't use your degree..

I graduated in December with a Bachelor's in Biology, and I'm not coping well with the loss of purpose, no. Doubt I could find a job in my area since I live in the boonies, but everything is shut down rn anyway so I don't care. I'm pretty much just waiting around to die, so I'm not concerned about the future anyway.

Biology that is so cool.
I hate how we are pushed in to going in to college and have no support after leaving college.

I hate being a graduate so much. I am living in the worst of both worlds. Overqualfied for retail jobs and underqualified for everything else.
There is so much talk of mental health in students but never graduates
Graduting just worsened my mental health
Day after day it just gets harder.

Maths.

Hmm I dunno. It was a little difficult for me as my grades during undergrad were not that great. I guess it is easier in scientific fields to secure such a position as there is more funding available from the government.

I worked right away after graduating with a degree. Then went back to school for another degree and currently within the medical field. I'm not complaining since I'm set in terms of career wise but I stop working to give myself a mental break and then this quarantine situation of the corona virus came along. Considering CTB but trying to give myself a chance here and there.

In terms of applying to jobs, what I will say is CONNECTIONS. You know someone who works somewhere, ask them to hook you up.
Though I have open opportunities in the medical field, honestly I would like to work in a café shop to work in a chill environment.

For you @FireFox, just try to keep mentally busy.

I think that's why a lot of people become teachers/professors. They'd rather stay in that world then get stuck in the corporate jungle everybody else is thrown into.

I've thought the same. I mean, my degree was useless, so I've been tempted to go back and get training for a more lucrative career. But owning/working a cafe seems like it would have some benefits, such as meeting cool people, listening to music all the time, etc...Most careers to me seem like shit.

Hey. I'm sorry if I'm late or what.
I recently graduated at law school. Got through the bar and all that. Got a job offer that was paying good for recent graduated lawyers.
However, I also don't want to be one.
It's hard. I think I would love to be a judge, but it's so damn hard here in Brazil to be one... 5 tests, more than 15000 candidates for idk, 5 spots. One chance in 2 or 3 years. I would have to sacrifice a lot of my family, friends and hobbies time to get that. People are taking more than 4 years of hard study (6h daily) to get through the phases.
It's sad, it's depressing. My therapist isn't helping that much.
I think I will stay with this job forever. At least I'm friends of the owner, so it can help my work to be easier and less stressfull.
However, I really didn't want to go to work already thinking about the time to get home.
I feel you, man. I truly do.

I am so stupid i turned down this job i was offered in this church set up by this woman . It a saturday job as youth worker.

I was afraid of messing up and being needy which was i turned it down.

I never going to get a job. Maybe i am being punsihed.
I regret it everyday .
I feel like this is my last ever job offer i receive.
I cant stop beating myself about it
I feel like i am punished for everthing in my life
1) Always believing sucide was selfish

2) Being jealous of the girl i went to school with because she got the guy i always wanted

3) turning down the job in the church
My depression diagnosis i realise now i am being punished for everthing

I am a bad person.

@FireFox it's ok. Why not asking the lady you would like to try out the job? Wouldn't hurt to try it out.

We all say we're bad person. OK we know there's a problem, which is the first solution. Now we move on to being a better person.

I'm still trying to get over my break up from my first relationship recently which has lead me to SS in finding ways to CTB thinking I suck since my first relationship I screwed it up and it didn't even last for half a year. I'm trying to learn from my mistake.

Like I said, ask the lady and try out the job. It's only once a week.
