• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Philip Nitschke has created a machine consisting of a 3D-printed detachable capsule mounted on a stand that contains a canister of liquid nitrogen to die by suicide through inert gas. People have been signing up to use the device.

Rescently in Switzerland people have been arrested for helping a US citizen die using the pod. "Assisted dying is legally protected in some circumstances in Switzerland, it is strictly regulated and the Sarco pod has encountered opposition" The Swiss authorities are opposed to the device because it can be operated without medical oversight and there are concerns a person can manufacture the device themselves if they have a 3D printer and acess to poisonous gasses

How did this US citizen get help accessing a Pod.

On their official website of The Last Resort there is an application tab to send a request, but it'll only be considered for those over 50 like anything Exit-International related.

I think that you also have to have an illness that can't be cured and that it physically kind of destroys your life. Like a really bad cancer or that illness that makes your muscles stop working one by one.
Like, for what I've read (I'm not expert in this) if you are 50 and mentally ill it's not enough to access those assisted suicide services.

I guess you have to start somewhere?, 50 is just an arbitrary number. I do look forward to the day when age is relative.

I doubt we'll be seeing it on Amazon/Ebay anytime soon...

I get the impression Nitschke and Exit International are very much about keeping assisted suicude gate kept for the over 50's and terminally/chronically ill. How to be eligible? Suffer for thr next 30 odd years and then contract something debilitating.

It's my understanding from reading some of the Swiss requirements that an American can go there to die, but it is an expensive and long process. Maybe I am reading wrong because who knows if 1% or less of the shit we read online is the truth any more.

Well, at least I am over 50 so I suppose I'd qualify for a pod. You know what would happen? I'd go there to ctb and be so overwhelmed with the natural beauty of the Swiss alps and countryside that I'd change my mind. Talk about a wasted opportunity. Then I'd get deported back to the US, be broke and lost my chance. Figures.

i think the patient already was suffering with a chronic illness. its a very long and expensive process from what i know. unless you're an elderly slowly dying with some money to throw then it seems pretty pointless to try getting a hold of

I think simply being mental ill doesn't qualify anywhere in the world. In Belgium we have euthanasia because of 'ondraaglijk pyschisch lijden' (unbearable mental suffering), but this can also be meant for people who have cancer. If you don't have a physical illness then an incurable mental disorder (schizophrenia, bipolar, ...) is required. But simply having a mental disorder isn't enough.

I listened to a woman from the US explain how she was able to take her husband there to die in a podcast. He had dementia. It was a lot of work and effort to get this for him.

I believe it - I'm sure it was very difficult. The only question I have is was the husband a completely willing participant? I'm guessing he was and the couple had long decided ahead of time what would happen if they ever got ill. My dad most definitely has dementia and at this point, I could not be sure if he could fully make a decision like that. Obviously I support the right to die 100% but also would worry about someone not completely there making that decision.

@Forever Sleep Philip Nitschke is a sanctimonious piece of shit.

Philip Nitschke on this website criticises Sanctioned Suicide for being pro suicide and has reported the site to the authorities in the past due to the site sharing his research.

Sanctioned Suicide and Exit International both provide information on suicide methods. Nitschkes is not any better than the moderators and users of this site but he plays holier than thou. He is a shameless man. If Sanctioned Suicide members were wealthy like his geriatric members he wouldn't dare touch this site.

As a person Philip Nitschke is a very horrible person. Philip Nitschke helped a physically healthy but depressed in 40s called Nigel Brylay kill himself, Brayley was being investigated for his wife's death and Australian police suspected he killed her. Brayley also two other women friends of his had also died and one of is still missing. Brayley clearly knew the police investigation was going to find evidence he had something to do with his wife's death and he couldn't handle the prospect of life in jail. Suicide is common for people being investigated or charged with serious crimes.

Nitschke didn't know about the investigation and ha even said the man "had made a rational decision to commit suicide rather than face long imprisonment." That tells you everything you need to know about him. Nitschke in the past even said convicted murders serving life sentences should have the right to kill themselves which sparked outrages from victim support groups who have lost families to murder.

@Serial Experi Pain On Reddit I used to belong to an eating disorders sub and on the sub I mentioned that I now use an Amazon locker to get my diet pills delivered to me instead of my house because lack of privacy in my house.

The moderator quickly removed ky posts citing one of the rules banning harmful advice meanwhile on the same sub people posted threads on foods they have been calorie counting, binge eating etc which are all harmful behaviours people with eating disorders are not allowed to do

Reddit is rampant with censorship and stalking moderators who police everything people write.

You have to be over 50 only with an incurable physical illness if you are not then you are ineligible. If you suffer only from a mental illness then you are ineligible.

To get selected the organisation that carries out will have to acess you. An American woman signed up to kill herself using the pod and at the last minute the organisation decided to cancel the scheduled day she was supposed to use the pod because the organisation felt she lacked mental capacity due to her mental illness.

The poor woman went missing and went on to kill herself, she found dead in a woods somewhere by police.

@uglyugly Killing yourself aboard is also difficult because which family member will be the one to take your body back home. Not everyone has supportive families or have family in their life.

Switzerland is a very beautiful country and I would love to visit 😍

@singingcrow An American woman in her 60s had traveled to Switzerland to use the 'Sarco' pod because the organisation approved of her to be a candidate and she was supposed to be the first.

Dr Philip Nitschke, said her planned death on July 17 was 'aborted' after she was found to be suffering from 'deteriorating mental health'.

This case makes me so f*cking angry because she went through their assessment process and now they are finding a problem with her.

What the fuck where they discussing in the meetings ? The poor woman ends up going missing.

I am partially worried about that part where "several people have been arrested" for the use of the device. On the other hand, Switzerland is a democratic country with a rule of law, and because they have literally passed a law allowing assisted suicide, I hope it passes the test if these arrested individuals ever get to see the inside of a courtroom. Since they only assisted someone who, in the end, made the final act themselves, the law should apply.

I hope this case and the use of this device for the first time gets to pass the test of democracy and reasonable arguments, so that we can slowly see the use of Sarco being implemented in Switzerland regularly.

I think it absolutely should be over 50 and for incurable/ terrible illnesses only for NOW. Realistically speaking, there is always going to be a huge push back when it comes to legalization of assisted suicide. This is far more agreeable for the general population and would get the "foot in the door" and get it going, then perhaps expand the criteria later. I think pretty much everyone who has seen a loved one deteriorate and suffer due to terminal cancer, etc, can understand and support them peacefully passing when the disease starts to progress to a level where dignity, quality of life are greatly affected.
