  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

The average person in the UK eats roughly 10,247 animals in a lifetime. This figure is based on the average UK life expectancy of 80.75 years and an average annual consumption of 126.4 animals per person.

Life is all about killing and subjugating others in order to make life better for yourself. It's always a competition, and someone must lose in order for another to get what they want in life. You eat or get eaten. I don't think I would be as miserable if I could be doing more of the eating anyways

Nature is harsh and punishing. It sucks, and it's not just the animals we eat, is the ones we wear, is the ones that die so we can clear land, for crops or farms or cities, is the ones that cannot withstand the climate changes we created, the ones that die over the pollution we create.. The ocean for instance, it's harsh enought as it is, but we "pump" carbon dioxide and increase the temperature and coral reefs die, they die and fish and lots of invertebrates lose their homes and source of food, so many animals tangled in fishin nets and plastic, sharks getting killed cause they come too close to the shore (they do it out of desperation by the way). So many plants and anphibians, dead because of disease and pathogens that spread because of climate change, invasive species brought by us killing the native ones.

And instead of doing something about it, we are spending millions to make "direwolfs". Jarred Dimond has called the human species the Sixth great extintion of the history of our planet.

I suck and as a biology major I feel powerless about it for the most part... So I would say for me alone, a few thousand have died, for all of us millions.

People will say that's just nature, and it is partially true, but the difference between us and a lion hunting gazelle is we are very much aware of our impact, "we" just don't care for the most part... it would cost profits and be inconvenient to change things, and people's life are so miserable I think most just don't have the energy to care about much more then themselves

The food chain is inevitable for wild animals. But for humans, it's even worse, with cruelty, malice, and suffering. They're criminals.

Praying everyday for aliens to come and wage war on non human animals' behalf.

What we have done via animal agriculture is the most heinous crime in a history littered with heinous crimes.

Whaling, as utterly abhorrent and useless as it was, pitted humans with relatively limited technology against animals that could somewhat defend themselves. Animal agriculture sees humanity torturing billions of animals who have absolutely zero capacity for self defense. Completely disgusting and shameless. This species, and especially those of it in the west have zero honor.

They would die even if I didnt exist
Most of the animals we eat today wouldn't even exist if it weren't for the fact that we breed them into existence for food. Chickens, pigs, cows, turkeys, etc. — they're not just out there living wild lives. They're purpose-bred in massive numbers specifically to be exploited and killed.

So when someone says "they would die even if I didn't exist the truth is:

They wouldn't be born at all if people didn't eat animals.

I've never really felt the need to be morally consistent in my beliefs, there's no gold star or trophy waiting for you at the end. I'm against cruelty to animals but I will still eat the animals that come from a cruel factory farming system. This contradiction and hypocrisy has been pointed out to me many times yet I remain unchanged. Whatever label that gets me you're welcome to apply it. It just doesn't matter to me.

I am 74 y.o. and have always tried to live lightly. (A 1970s song by Roy Harper had the memorable line "Please leave this world as clean as when you came.") Humanity at its best is a Steward, not an exploiter. But humanity tends more toward its worst impulses than its best potentials. My ultimate acceptance of this tragic reality is one of the reasons I want to leave. Another is my failing health requiring ever more "dirty" activity (plastic urine collecting bags, having to drive a polluting car instead of walking...).
