Hi,

I hope everyone is well, I was wondering if anyone has any advice on getting over the fear of dying.

The 2 biggest things are obviously, the complete cessation of existence into nothingness, or the chance of going to hell for eternity?
I'm aware this question is probably asked a lot, I am sorry.

Obviously another issue is the process of dying, especially whilst hanging. All hanging videos I have seen are so incredibly disturbing, to the point that the multitude of times I have considered CTB, watching a couple of those videos instantly snap me out of it. Not because I feel better, but because I don't have the boldness to commit the same act.

If I didn't have that fear, then I would CTB tonight. My plan is to take some promethazine, write a letter then hang myself with my trouser belt wedged into my door.

Thanks.

I highly empathize with your apprehension towards being claimed into the eternal void and not knowing what's on the other side. Sadly, I don't really have any suggestions to help ease your feelings—it's kinda just the roll of the dice that comes with this sort of thing, ya know? However, I've heard that if you still fear death, it means you're not entirely read to go yet and may want to give your situation some further deliberation.

If the disturbing nature of hanging is worrisome and off-putting to you, so much so that it's fully deterring you from CTB, then I would advise a change of method. Personally, I would never opt for hanging or any form of ligature asphyxiation, as my fears are actually quite similar to yours. But of course, the methods available to you will be largely dependent upon your location and the resources you have at your disposal. I believe the quickest and least painful methods would be firearm (shotgun to the head specifically) & inert gas asphyxiation, so look into those if you are able to.

Are you religious? I'm not but I was raised as a Catholic and I still have a vestigial fear of hell. Even though I don't believe in the Christian God I wonder if there's a universal emanation like some sort of blind idiot god that unknowingly sends negative thought patterns spiraling into an eternity of tortured existence after the body containing those patterns ceases.

I love my mind, man.

For me it was just about being honest to myself...why and for what reason. Once i asked that to myself and got the answer. ..it took some time but eventually it made sense to me .. tbats when i came to terms with it.

I hope you find the relief you search for, for me suffering for way longer in this dreadful, cruel and torturous existence is what I fear instead especially as there is no limit as to how much agony one can feel, for me non-existence is all I see as desirable and is all I hope for in this existence where there's all this cruelty and suffering, all I want is to never suffer again.

I totally understand where you are coming from. Ive seen hanging videos and what worries me about them is the fear of not doing it correctly and causing the experience to go on longer and either be more painful or surviving with damage. So if that bothers you, you might want to look for another option. If you have access to guns or SN, those might be better but a lot of that depends on where you live.

Also, if you are reluctant about going through the act, you should really sit down and think hard about whether or not this is something you are 100% sure you want to do. I know youve probaby heard it before but it something that should be done if you are absolutely serious its what you want. Not tryng to lecture anyone, just saying that you need to be certain of. Especially when you are having even the slightest doubts.

Best of luck. :)

A mixture of religion and just accepting that I cannot avoid it has been helping me.
My fear of death has been reignited recently, to the point where a couple weeks ago I was suffering daily panic attacks over it.
Also, you were already pulled out of this "death state" once, considering we all started there. Who is to say you won't be pulled out of it again?

In terms of the fear of dying, there's elements of it that will never change. Either you're afraid of it, or you're not.

Then there's the element that can change. If you're fed up of life, you naturally start seeing death as a relief from suffering. But if you're the sort of person who has a natural instinctive fear of death, that but won't change.

Fear of methods is yet another element. Fear is a good thing here. It stops you doing something stupid that you could bitterly regret later. To get over it, learn more about each method. Either you'll increasingly learn your fear was justified or you'll learn it wasn't. If you're lucky, you'll find a method that makes sense because every aspect seems like what you want; easy to do, does not involve suffering, does not impact others negatively, does not risk failure and permanent injuries that you'll have to live with for the rest of your life. Otherwise, you learn it's a bad method that's not right for you, and so you naturally fear it.

In short, you need to live with the fears for a while. Either they'll get better, stay the same, or get worse. All you can do is give it time, do some research, and see how it goes

Humans are cursed with a surplus of consciousness. We are the only living beings that can fear the future. Fear death. Ruminate about the past. Hell, even invent horrors that might pursue it beyond the grave.
