Venting I absolutely hate reddit sometimes

There's a thread on r/confession right now of someone saying goodbye and that they're going to kill themselves this weekend and it's filled with comments pleading with them to stay alive, and any comment like "i'm planning to do something similar soon, best of luck" is downvoted to hell. Threads like that rub me the wrong way and come across as so ingenuine and fake. Like how do they know better, how do they get to be all so high and mighty about how life is a gift and everyday is a new day? fuck off man, if i were in OP's shoes I'd prefer the genuine comments instead of the meaningless platitudes that fill every depression/suicide thread on reddit. Some people just refuse to believe that life isn't for everyone and that life is hell for some and doesn't get better

I also feel like a lot of the "but you're loved, OP!" is pretty fake and meaningless, but at the same time I can somewhat emphasise with the people who say stuff like that. A lot of them are just well-meaning normies who don't really get what you say in the quoted part, I don't really blame them.

But yeah, stuff like "why don't you just use that weekend to enjoy yourself" isn't exactly very helpful when somebody is depressed and literally unable to feel joy.

Yeah, that's complete horseshit and I also find that infuriating. If I was about to ctb, stuff like that would make me more determined to go through with it, just out of spite for people like that. Suicide as radical freedom and all that

I find it funny that there's actually a post that recommends hiking... wtf, somebody decided to kill themselves, went out hiking and then suddenly were not depressed anymore? I dont believe it.

It's impossible to have a discussion on reddit, because there can only be one prevailing thought pattern per thread. I've seen utterly crap responses with 15k upvotes, and some really thoughtful posts that get downvoted to oblivion. Unfortunately, the top responses are always very cliche and politically correct. Anything that doesn't sound like a boring, utilitarian Facebook post isn't an acceptable answer. I find that I can invariably guess the top comment on any given topic without even clicking on it.

The Suicide Watch sub is the same. I spent months on that shit sub reading meaningless platitudes by idiots. I only discovered SS last week by chance when I was looking for other suicide subs on Reddit.

I know there used to be a sanctioned suicide subreddit, but it was removed. There are others subreddits like r/choosetogo, r/righttodie, and r/suicidology, but they're "dead"

At least for the most part.

Glad this place exists, otherwise I couldn't handle the pressure.

I understand my friend. I have a large family and I deeply love them. They are great people. I respect your decision because it is yours and yours alone. Sometimes you can not escape the pain, misery, and despair in your life. Everyday becomes a battle to breathe for many. I'm very fortunate to have a great support network in this site now and also my family. Everyone's situation is different, no one has the right to judge anyone. I fully believe our existence here is not to label or judge people, but to extend a hand in their time of need. I hope the rest of you help me also as I continue on this journey. Remember, we are not here to suffer, but to live.

This is why I'm so thankful for SS. Seeing those kind of responses make my blood boil. I have posted to Reddit about depression a couple times and the bulk of responses are bullshit like this. I know they mean well, but most of the stuff they tell you to try to "help" you makes you feel so much worse. All I'm looking for is a little compassion without being told I'm somehow responsible for my depression or just too stupid to figure out how to fix myself. I feel so bad for the OPs when they get responses like this. Every time I see "Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem" it makes me want to ctb even more. Seriously, fuck Reddit.

Fun fact, none of those people pleading for them to live are going to be there for this person. Not one. No one is going to help pay the bill if this person calls the suicide hotline goes away in an ambulance without health insurance.

I think reddit was always going to eventually become quite restrictive, probably from law suits. Other issues. Bullying. Etc.

Highest rated topic on Askreddit: "Stan Lee has passed away". Lowest rated topic on Askreddit: "I hear my roommate masturbating. Should I walk in on her?" Now to be fair, neither of them are great subjects, but you still win a cookie if you guess which one I'm more interested in. Yet more proof that the site is just a competition as to who can be the most bland. That same blandness translates to the most tired and trite advice when it comes to things like suicide.

In the end, you start to realize you'd simply prefer to commiserate with others who feel the same way, rather than listen to people spout the kind of nonsense that sounds like it belongs on the inside of a Hallmark card. "Instead of taking the weekend to ctb, take it to enjoy yourself". Indeed. That person (with the top comment no less) is just an out-and-out troll. I hate reddit.

I looked at it but I only read a few comments. I used to go on reddit when the old S.S. was there and I used to post on Time To Go but I haven't been on there in months ??? At least 2. There was always the pro-lifers on there. I usually ignored them. Sure … there life may be awesome but it's not that way for everyone and in NEVER will be. Thjs planet is overcrowded … let us go if we want to.

Reddit has been seriously infested with trolls. It's like a troll apocalypse over there. Half the people there are trolls. It's also become too popular so it's become too mainsteam aka too many normal people there. And we know what normal people are like. A bunch of life worshiping cultists.
