I know that everyone (including myself) are all guilty of this before, whether it is subconsciously or even unintentionally in conversations, but in this venting article, I'm referring to people who go out of their way, intentionally to be a contrarian or just to try to prove or disprove a point for the sake of it. This not only fails to offer any constructive, useful, or helpful criticism or anything closer to a solution, but more often than not, it is also quite dismissive, ridiculing, and insulting towards the person it is addressed to.
So what do I mean by people who are intentionally being contrarians? These are the kinds of people who will try to look for some outliers or special case and use that just as an argument not to be constructive or helpful in any way, but merely trying to disprove a certain point, in other words, being an ass. Sure, they are free to speak their mind and I cannot limit their speech (nor that I could or want to), but they aren't going to be regarded highly by me. They are instead going to be seen as 'trolls' and just mere detractors and nuisances more than anything. Additionally, I find them rather insufferable, irritating, and essentially, they are smart-asses. This can happen in almost any topic or field, not necessarily limited to CTB or RTD discussions, but even everyday topics and other spaces too.
For instance, when I was into other things such as food, gaming, and/or other activities, some of these people are often cite really special, outlandish cases, even in a veneer snideful tone (the latter part being just superfluous and unnecessary but definitely adds insult to injury). I see this not only on Reddit, but also in other areas and forums that I'm a part of it outside of SaSu. The reason it's so frustrating and irritating is that it doesn't help get me any closer to a solution, and it is also at best, a waste of time while also dismissing and invalidating (especially if the person responding is being snarky or ridiculing and mocking towards the claim, even at times veering off topic and derailing the discussion. For example, when I was once discussing about specifics about food and taste, while there may be some constructive and helpful comments about my topic at hand, there has even been some people who derail the thread or topic I had in mind and even went to be a contrarian just for the sake of it, only complicating the topic, derailing it from it's original point, and also just irritating to read and parse.
In conclusion, people will always do whatever they wish to and I know that's human nature and I cannot control how they will interpret, respond, or act towards whatever it is. However, I do make it clear that people (outside of SaSu) who just seek to prove some point by being a contrarian is really not offering any benefit to the discussion nor does it help me get anywhere closer to a solution or answer. In fact, I get very annoyed at such behaviors and it just serves to frustrate me further. I figured I vent a little bit as I think I'm not the only person who has experienced people who are just contrarians for the sake of trying to prove a point, proving the original poster (me, or just anyone else who is looking for serious answers and responses) wrong, or just overall being obnoxious for shits and giggles.
