Basically they were complaining that I worked too slow and had an "attitude". That I always looked bored or like I didn't care about/ like my job and that I never smiled. Also cause I was "rude". The funny thing is that I genuinely like my job until my manager came up to me and went on a long complaint about my "behavior". After that was when I actually started hating my job because I started noticing all the backhanded and rude things they would say to me for no reason. I would get a headache just thinking about running into the manager or the store owner. I HATED my job. Talking to any of my bosses was like pulling teeth, they became so demeaning , rude and nitpicky. I couldn't even have a break in peace without them coming in and telling me that I was breathing slightly wrong earlier. I worked in the back of a grocery store, cutting vegetables and baking products so it wasn't a costumer service issue cause I never saw costumers. I was planning on quitting mid next week anyway so im not sad, Im just kinda mad. Also I had been working there for less than a month, I started on the 4th. The grocery store was new so my first 2 weeks was helping set up the store , so I had only really been working my job for like a week 😭😭. And they already had everybody running whole departments ( deli, bakery, produce etc ) by themselves. I didn't even have the TIME to smile.

My manager would also ALWAYYSS read into everything I did. Like one time I was outside the freezer and he was inside and he said something to me,, but I didn't hear him. So I said "What?". He started getting mad and says " Am I talking to loud for you?!". I guess he thought I was mocking him or something ( cause he was trying to talk over the sound of the vents and I said " What " kinda loud) but the music in the store was genuinely so loud, and my coworker pointed that out for me. He then EXITS THE FREEZER TO CHECK THE VOLUME OF THE MUSIC HIMSELF. Shoots me a look and then mumbles that he'll turn it down later. All this aggression and all I said was " What?" 😭😭. It happened so often that I just stopped correcting or defending myself and resigned to the fact I would get fired. I would just stare and then change the subject. Everday I would get a lecture for daring to ask a question. 😔😔

Anyways, kind of a rant, but my depression, monotone voice, and resting bitch face got me fired 😭😭. Also probably being a black woman, so everything I do must be aggressive ig. Its irritating me because my boss admitted himself there was nothing wrong with my work, it was just my "attitude". Ig unhappy people aren't allowed to have jobs anymore?? 😭😭. It just reminded me how much of your life we are all just expected to fake for the sake of other people, which makes me even more depressed. Im supposed to be upbeat and excited for 8 straight hours?? Really??? Your really just ment to be a robot, ahve only 1 mood. I cant do this for 60 more years yall. Damn 😔😔

Yeah people are stupid. Prolly sound arrogant saying that, but when it comes to mental illness it really is the truth.

It's easier for some legitimately disabled yet happy people to hold down a job than a visibly depressed person. It's hard to sell yourself when you want to erase it.

i'm so sorry this happened to you. this is what's holding me back from having a job, since my resting bitch face is really present even in interviews. i have a hard time maintaining eye contact and don't really emote my voice. sometimes i worry what people will think of me so i just give short responses, which makes me look even more rude. i don't think that someone like me deserves to get a job if i think that people will just want to judge me for the way i act.

I'm so sorry. T_T People can be such idiots. I used to think that I wasn't liked just because I wasn't likable. They used to say about me, like, "it's like she has a headache." Of course the famous "SMIIILE!!!" Sooner or later the pointless aggression starts. Sometimes it's just because people don't know how to actually use their mouth, and I'm not a mind reader.

I'm sorry that happened to you. People can be so rude. Probably on a power trip and saw you as an easy target. God forbid someone doesn't have Spongebob-level enthusiasm for their job. Smdh

I'm also sorry this happened to you too. I have to agree that there's really no accommodations made for mental health issues in the workplace and it's so wrong. I have been with the organization I work at for 9 years, but from 2020-January 2025 I worked from home. Now, they want me in the office for no good reason and I am taking days off left and right. Chances are I am going to get fired too. That will probably be the last straw for me because not making money will be too much. It's crazy that an employee can break a leg and go back to work in a cast. If they can't move quick enough will they get fired? Probably not. Even worse, if the employer said you needed to remove the cast because it looks bad for the company, would that ever be allowed? No because the worker could sue and likely win. That's never the case with mental health.
