Eating is enjoyable and therefore releases endorphins, which are chemicals that our body creates. These chemicals (hormones) combat the stress chemicals (adrenaline, cortisol, etc.). All you have to do to reduce eating and therefore weight is substitute the activity of eating with something else that you equally enjoy. It's the chemicals that enjoyment of any type create that you are addicted to, not the food itself.
That being said, it's definitely easier said than done. The big challenge is finding something in this life that you enjoy as much or more than eating. But if you can do this, then you're golden. Obviously exercise is one possibility, and definitely the healthiest. Many people find various forms of exercise to be extremely enjoyable. It likely wouldn't feel that way in the very beginning (because of the excess weight), but after a while once you come healthy, exercise is extremely enjoyable, and also creates a lot of endorphins in your body.
