I don't work in a corporate environment, but rather in a research/think tank nonprofit. And I hate it. I hate all the bullshit language: circle back, touch base, connect, follow up, flag this, share screen, ping me, keep her in the loop, fast track, on the back burner, action, fuck i fucking hate it. I hate the sense of urgency for things that don't fucking matter. who gives a shit if the report is published late, no one is going to read it. International development is such a bullshit field, it doesn't make any difference, it doesn't work. My company paid $6000 for some podcaster to record some stupid audio that no one will watch. It makes me ashamed to work for this fucking company that gets grant money from different governments, we're basically stealing money from taxpayers and using it for my boss's insane incomprehensible research projects, flying halfwaya round the world every 3 months for no fucking reason, this whole industry is bullshit. It's just wealthy academics pretending that all the world's problems can be solved if we just give them enough taxpayer's money. I can't wrap my head around the actual content of our work, I work for this company and I don't understand what the shit we publish means, fuck this.

I hope I'm fired, I hope my company goes bankrupt, I hope governments stop giving us money for this ridiculous bullshit we do. It maks me want to fucking die so badly, I'ma lready wasting away from chronic illness and I'm giving my energy and stressing so much over absolute meaningless bullshit.

Sounds like a nice gig
Hook me up?
Should have clarified lol, I'm not the one that gets to travel, that's just my boss. I get paid a dollar above my country's minimum wage and can't even work full time due to being too chronically ill and useless

Damn that sounds almost identical to this place I've gone to. It's a place that uses people with mental illness to file paperwork to get grants and funding from the government and private institutions. They also have a bullshit social media presence that no one looks at too. They sort of promise you that they will hook you up with a job or housing if you are in need. But, most of the time that is absolutely not the case. They use all this corporate/liberal/DEI jargon to describe things. In reality it just seems like a money laundering operation that uses slave labor and exploits some of the hardest hit members of society wrapped in up fake, feel good bullshit. There are staff members there that do get paid that basically do the same thing you do. The director is the one that probably makes the most. There's also a board of directors that work for various institutions, banks, and corporations in the area. It's all very suspect.

Glad you got a kick out it lol

I can't be too specific because what my organization does is so niche that using the specific term would basically be doxxing myself. But essentially my boss left a larger organization and started up their own because they believed there is one particular thing international development people should focus on that would correct most of the issues in the field. Personally I don't find the argument convincing at all, and thus think all the work we do is basically pointless.

Because I don't believe in what we do, the work I do to 'court' potential funders feels slimy and wrong. I guess we don't outright lie about what we do with grants, but we certainly twist what we say to match with whatever the funder says they want to fund. And our 'niche' can basically be aligned with any funding priority if we make it vague enough.

These grants are for anywhere from a few thousand to literal millions of dollars, and I kind of hate being part of it. Not because I agree with this Trumpian idea of 'we shouldn't be funding other countries, it's a waste of money, they can figure out their own problems'. But like, these millions of dollars could literally be spent just on actual food and clean water to give people in third world countries, but instead I'm helping divert it to go to convoluted research projects where the end result is an online guide or publication that will get like 200 views, and I know because I'm the one who tracks how many views we get. The rate of return for some of this shit is seriously that we spent $4000 per person who downloads an article, it's ridiculous.

I do like the idea of working in a think tank though. You should take that experience and try and find a job you care about with hopefully a slight pay increase.

I try not to worry about other countries since I can see people suffering without those things in my own native land (Canada). That does suck... the distribution of human wealth is very messed up currently.

Having to work to survive, no matter what physical condition you are in, is already shit. Just another of the impositions of being alive. I hate having to leave home to work, even though I've been doing it for so many years. I'm almost 60 and I'll never get used to it. Mainly because money is to pay for life. Eating, defecating, eating again, drinking, urinating because diseases are right there waiting to do what life does best: cause some kind of pain.
