  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

I've never done this before, I'm really nervous. What can I expect?
Should I tell them that I suspect that I have aspergers, or are self-diagnoses frowned upon?

I speak to legal social workers and can give advice. The psychiatrist may just ask a bit about your life, hobbies, etc. And get to know you in order to establish trust and social bonding and get a bit of initial info. Definitely tell them your suspicion of Aspergers; it will help them get pointed in the right direction and see if you actually have it. Don't be nervous; it really isn't anything bad. Trust me.

So when I went I was pretty open with what was in my head. I never really self diagnosed. A lot of it was her asking the questions trying to get a solid foundation of why I was in the office talking to her. At the end of the day you hold all the power to what's told, and not told. If you're searching for legitimate help just be truthful.

I've been to a few appointments before I gave up. Mine would ask questions about me, my hobbies, college life, if I had a job or how my job hunt was going. Then she would ask about my relationship with my family, if it has improved in the past months, and ask about my feelings and views in general. They don't go too deep into it, cause it's not a therapy session. Mine even suggested going to therapy. I told her I already tried but it didn't work and she didn't push it. I also told her I was feeling suicidal but totally sugarcoated it cause I didn't want to end up in a psych ward.

Hope the appointment went well, do let us know. As for what to say, well in my experience just be honest. They can only help you if you are. They aren't bad people, they won't judge you etc. Most are good and will understand and help.

hope all went smoothly! i try to be as transparent as possible with mental health providers. suspecting you have something is pretty different from self-diagnosis, so definitely bring it up next time if you didn't during this appointment. it'll tell them that they have to test you a little more in-depth on that particular thing.

Hope it went well. Self Diagnoses are usually not frowned upon as long as you have reasoning, ex. I told my psychiatrist my symptoms of ADHD, and she put me on adderall.
