Venting I prefer to live on the streets than to return to my country

Here in Lima I live with a person who has given me lodging while I sell coffee at night to eat. For those who don't know, I am Venezuelan and after living in Colombia for a while, I saw Lima as a comfortable place to live.

Recently, the president of Peru declared that she was going to reinforce the measures against undocumented migrants, placing laws so that they can only rent rooms if they have papers and they would investigate where all those who are in this country get their income from, so they asked me what I would do about it, so I answered that I prefer to live on the streets than return to my country, at least I won't go hungry here, although the part that worries me is the fact that if I am detained by an immigration officer, they will expel me, sending me to the border area by force, although in that case I may put up resistance or end up returning to Lima, either way things are going to get complicated for those of us who don't have the documentation to live here.

Just out of curiosity why is it hard to get documentation to live in peace where you want to? Is it a problem with your native country's government? Is there anything like an application for asylum that could work?

It was possible to obtain documentation here until a year ago when the government decided to stop the legalization process for Venezuelan migrants, so I was unable to complete the process since I came to this country 6 months ago. In addition, I already have an expulsion order for having entered the country illegally, but I simply ignored this expulsion order. In the time I have been living here, I have only seen 2 raids against migrants, which I have successfully avoided since there are people here whom I trust who keep me informed of what is happening so I can protect myself.

PS: My country also cut diplomatic relations with Venezuela, which makes things even more difficult.

It sucks so much, I hope you'll find a safe place, maybe even in a different country if things go bad where you are right now. Every time I read something about Venezuela it sounds like an awful country to live in.

I'm sorry you are in this situation, maybe you could try Brazil, we have almost no migrant policy here, the downside is the diferent language and our economy is not in a good shape, and no prospects of getting better, but i know theres lots of venezuelans here.

I appreciate your comment but the reason why I don't want to leave here is because I lack the strength and motivation to go to another country and start from scratch again.

Hope things get better for you, Venezuela is in ruins i feel sorry for you and for what the population has whent through.

But if you get caught and deported, you can try go to Brazil, in South America is your best option and there are a lot of venezuelans rebuiding their life.

Brazil is far for being perfect, try moving to Sao Paulo, there are job opportunities that will pay for a roof and food. Find others venezuelans that will help you with starting again, but now, without the problem of being deported.

If they catch me, they will not deport me because there are no diplomatic relations with my country, instead they will send me to the border with Ecuador and in that scenario my two options would be to go to Colombia or return to Lima.
