My guess would be a detergent CTB because they mention fumes

Could have been Hydrogen sulfide gas, Carbon monoxide from charcoal or from mixing acids.
Hydrogen sulfide is very toxic. If you can smell it you most likely need medical care.

And if you're exposed and you can't smell fumes, it's already too late. You're probably gone before you have the chance to breathe again
