is it just because SN has been tried and true? i've been looking into getting SN but it's definitely a process. i found out about potassium nitrite basically doing the exact same thing because it's about the nitrites themselves doing the poisoning. is there a reason it's not more popular that i haven't found out about yet? less peaceful maybe?

if you search this site it brings up a few posts - would be interested myself as SN seems out of reach, not real , dodgy batches , can only get from chemical companies & depend which county ur in.

potassium nitrite (KNO2)

Nitrite is nitrite, whether bound to sodium, potassium or whatever else 🤗🌹💔

Depending on where you live it might be as difficult to obtain as SN. You can use the search, there r some threads about potassium nitrite (KN).

1. I suspect a lot of people don't know about it
2. The optimal dosage is less clear than with SN

The PPH doesn't talk about potassium nitrite. Only sodium nitrite. I don't know if the dosages would be the same in terms of grams. SN information on this site is way more documented and accessible because of the PPH. Good luck to you

The newest edition mentions it albeit only in passing

the way i found out about it was the new edition of the PPH. it mentions it briefly as an analogue since SN is getting drastically harder to obtain

I feel like it would probably be around the same. I haven't looked into dosage on that one much yet, but its still the same substance, just bound to something else

i didn't know that. I only know about the pph through this site, never had a copy of my own. it's good it's in the new edition as you say, give people another option who need it.

thank you, i didn't know that. i never had a copy, only what saw on this website quoted. i got SN but it's good people can get PN. SN and PN i think are the least bad of any realistic methods and although i have a mix of firearms, i will use SN. Thank you, and Good Luck

I guess, you'd need more KNO2 because its molar mass is higher than that of NaNO2.
25 g of NaNO2 contain nearly the same amount of NO2- (nitrite) groups as 30.83 g of KNO2 do.

As noted by @Intoxicated , the differing molar masses mean you need more of the potassium salt than the sodium salt for the same effect.

On the flip side, the potassium salt is about four times more soluble in water than the sodium salt, meaning you would need to drink less solution.

I do think SN being a known method is an advantage.

But the most important thing is that sodium nitrite is much easier to get than potassium nitrite. DMC sells sodium nitrite, not potassium nitrite. The Polish source I used sells sodium nitrite, not potassium nitrite. The only sources I could find for potassium nitrite were chemical wholesalers who would only ship to business addresses.
