  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

At least that's what I've found. I thought that because places like Reddit's /r/depression /r/suicidewatch had suicidal people that they would be empathetic or be okay with suicide but that's far from the case. Many people unfortunately are actually insulting to people who go through suicide and are just on another spectrum of "pro-lifers".

I've realized that I'm a pretty weird person. I've had homicidal ideation, attempted to assault my parents, tried suicide many times, gotten into non-violent trouble with the law. A lot of people online who have depression or suicide haven't had these issues. They generally care about their families, can be "molded" into society, don't want to kill people, hold mostly pro-social beliefs, and most importantly can be guilted quite easily. That's why someone can be suicidal for a long time (and you've seen it here as well) but when they attempt and their family tells them that "it's the most selfish thing you can do", they can never attempt suicide.

I've learned not to expect any sympathy from the vast majority of people. People are far too attached to their families, wanting to live, even many with suicidal ideation. I don't judge them for not killing themselves but I do take a problem when they then start to spew out pro-life platitudes.

I.. Feel like a special case too. The longer I've spent watching people change, get better, eventually get a job or even go to uni and go on all these amazing holidays etc etc.. Yet here I am after attempting to access many forms of help... Exactly the same place as 6 or more years ago.

Its also true that families are wired to stock together I think because friendships are transient and fleeting for many and even the strongest friendships can be broken down by issues like the ones we suffer from...

I'm stuck in a place forever that most people simply pass through and then live past. I cant live like this for a lifetime.

Do you know any families that have broken down?

Yes my point that I missed out is because people are focused so much on their families, those of us who have a dysfunctional or nonexistent family generally get shafted pretty hard. Mentally, socially and materially. Except for those "go getters" that we should all aspire to be like amirite?

Some people never get better. It's infuriating how the majority of the world refuses to entertain this concept. You express it and you're automatically either shunned or considered mentally unwell

I could give a rat's ass about molding to society. Society needs to mold to me.

I agree with the premise of this thread, which is why I only discuss methods/support with certain types of suicidal people. Even when discussing suicide with other suicidal people, I've experienced a lull in the conversation once I reveal I spent time in a mental health hospital because of an attempt. The concept of "not fitting in" varies quite a bit.

Exactly. I think why is because it's such a hard fact to accept. That for some no matter how hard they try they won't get better.
