• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Using the word 'suicide' in newspapers can increase suicides by 10%. Furthermore, if the title is also sensationalistic, there is a 15% increase. Mentioning the suicide method can also increase by an additional 10%. Better to write "he couldn't handle the pain", or "he suffered from an ache in life".

Can they realistically attribute a rise in suicides to that alone? Surely, there are all sorts of reasons there may be an increase in them. I imagine economics plays a big roll. How can they be sure all those people read newspapers? Maybe they should start using 'CTB' too.

Suicide is kept at low levels thanks to the criminalization made by the global pro-life culture. However, as soon as pro-life oppression loses control slightly, suicides increase enormously. After Marilyn Monroe's death they increased by 1000% in the first month in Los Angeles. It also happened after the release of some films or in populations where life was not sufficiently exalted and suicide sufficiently criminalized. Society does everything to control a natural propensity of human beings such as suicide. He also does it with murder and many other things.

I dunno about the press but my folks are super sensitive about the suicide word. Like they'll say "have you been having bad thoughts" instead. For me, they're not bad thoughts though and I understand that this is something they do to emotionally protect themselves a lil bit.

According to Wikipedia "Media reporting of the methods used in suicides is "strongly discouraged" by the WHO, government health agencies, universities, and the Associated Press among others.". That is why its so hard to find details of successful methods in simple searches.
I see no reports of suicide in the local media all though I know it is happening.

Reports encourage emulation. Everyone wants to die consciously or unconsciously. The reports could give simple directions.

there are journalistic rules around ctb. many people broke them with kate spade and anthony bourdains ctb stories, for example. generally, it's not encouraged to be crass about it. this has been a thing in journalism for a long time
