  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Depends on life I guess. Some are lucky, they have everything. Successful careers, families, wives and children, but most of us are struggling.

Depends on your potential I suppose. If you have prospects for a good life then it's absolutely worth living, however, if you're going to be homeless, harmed, discriminated, and have no future, then absolutely not.

For something so valued, sometimes I think life imparts so much burden upon us that it does not ever compensate enough for. In short, a lot of the potential negatives outweigh the positive one could experience which are still dependent on so many factors. That said, difficult to say from an individual perspective.

It's genuinely hard to say, because I wouldn't say I didn't have anything going for me (decent job, good relationship) but I will say that it wasn't enough for me to not make a pseudo-attempt about 8ish months ago. Maybe it's a per person thing.

It's reliant on personal perspective I suppose. Personally, I don't find it to be worth it. I think perhaps others experiencing my life would but, that doesn't change how I feel about it.

I suppose the more relavent question is: Can we picture a life that would feel worthwhile? What do we need to do to achieve it? What is the likelihood of achieving it? That can point us in the direction we would need to aim for.

For me though, I'm not convinced there's much I particularly even want anymore! That really only points me in one last direction.

I think it depends on the person/ personal.

For me many a questions to ask myself to determine that but also the circumstances..

I've reached the point that life is mostly not worth it sooo... yeah

I'll let you know when/if I make it through the gauntlet 🙃.

But I don't think there is a general answer to this. Some people are lucky to be born into great lives. Other people have the find a good life. And I think some people never will. You can't do anything about the first or third category, but you can always try for the second. At least that is what I'm hoping. I may well completely fail, but I'm hoping.

Basically, no, in my opinion. But, if you are fortunate (as I have been) you can find enough good things to give you reasons to continue living. But ultimately it is all pointless, and not having been born in the first place would have been preferable.

I don't personally believe so. Some people meet others or have experiences that make it seem like it is. In the end it is all nothing.

Just wanting some peace

For me it could never be and more than anything I just wish I never suffered in this existence at all, I'll just always see existence as the most terrible tragic mistake that just causes and brings so much harm and suffering until all is forgotten in non-existence and I'll just always see existence as the problem, it's just something so cruel and torturous. I find it so dreadful how this existence of suffering all for the sake of it was even imposed at all even know there were never any disadvantages to never suffering at all, no matter what I'd just always prefer to not exist than be conscious in this existence of unnecessary suffering just waiting for death capable of suffering to unlimited extents, for me non-existence really is all that's positive and I find it so terrifying how a human can suffer for so long in this existence just to be tortured in agony from old age and die anyway.

life is only really worth living if you were born into a good position in the first place. wealthy family, loving parents, a country that didn't want to rid of your minority group, all that. it also depends on your willingness to live. if you live in constant despair, then why bother suffering? it's like putting your pet down. you put them down because you see them suffering and you only want the best for them.

And remember, it isn't worth because of you being born into that good position, it's worth it because that good position shielded you from the truth that your life can be an absolute shit hole and you experiencing suicidal thoughts and clinical depression. This is why for some people even if they would be dropped 2 billion dollars on their backs, they still wouldn't be "cured". You need to be born and indoctrinated and shielded from a child and if you aren't, good luck, no?

The truth is, life on its own isn't worth it. It's struggle, pain, repetition, emptiness. But if you take a hit of heroin — or something really strong — then yeah, for a moment it actually feels like life is a beautiful gift. Not because life changed, but because you tricked your brain. It's artificial, sure. But it's the only time it feels like staying makes sense. The rest of the time? Just waiting for the next moment of relief.
