• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

What would be the efficacy of just walking deep into a forest and laying down, then waiting to die in the cold?

It's been very cold here recently, but I know nothing about the speed of onset for hypothermia and how unpleasant it would be. I would plan to fast for a few days prior then just walk deep into a forest away from residential areas and take my jacket off. Would this be too slow and uncomfortable? I've been becoming increasingly desperate for a method in recent times and this seems like by far the most feasible to execute, but I'm probably missing something. Is there any documentation of how successful this can be? Thanks in advance.
Local temperatures at night have been fairly consistently under 40deg F, for reference.

Everytime I think about somebody dying in the cold this image always springs to my mind:

In the air, hypothermia can develop in as little as five minutes in temperatures of minus -50°F/-45.5°C in people who are not dressed properly and have exposed skin. At -30°F/-34.4°C, hypothermia can occur in about 10 minutes. Death can occur in under an hour in extremely cold conditions.

Is there anyway to find out how long onset would take in 30deg F weather with light clothing?
For anyone looking in the future, I've found this: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.23907/2015.051?journalCode=afpa

It seems to say that among documented cases most involved either drugs or a further form of self-injuring. It also seems to be much less common than I had thought.

There was a guy in the news the other day who simply died because he jumped into a freezing swimming pool and it triggered a brain aneurysm. He hadn't wanted to do this, just assumed it was warm. This is where survival instinct can work against us you see. You will *know* and thus actively resist in spite of yourself.

This is my plan too. However I think if it's going to work you need to make precautions, not do it impulsively, and not expect it to be quick and painless.

Also: 40f is not cold enough. My plan is to travel to an area which gets to like 14f and lower. There was someone who posted here about trying this in around 40f temps and he just lay there for a few nights feeling chilly and uncomfortable, no harm done to him.

Even if the temp is suitably low, how will you counter the urge to simply put your jacket back on and walk home? Can you accept that the body will fight being cold and it will be painful and stressful to maintain your will against SI? Can you think of a way to make it less painful for yourself (sedatives, booze, for example?) Are you so determined to die that you can imagine tolerating the cold, the pain and discomfort, for hours possibly before your body starts shutting down?

How far away are you going to go? Are you sure noone will come and find you before you've managed to ctb? What if someone came after you've received frostbite injuries, "rescues" you, and then you might be worse off than before. People are EVERYWHERE on this stupid planet. Anywhere at all easy to get to you will risk someone else also going there. Can you access somewhere really remote? eg deliberately go to a dangerous area where you probably won't be able to escape?

You lose body temp much faster in water than in air. Could you expediate the process with cold water immersion? Bearing in mind this will also be extremely painful and unpleasant?

Are you young and healthy? Your body will be much more resilient than you think. Fasting for a couple of days if you're generally not malnourished won't make any difference.

We are equipped to withstand cold temperatures and lack of food. The body has mechanisms that kick in that made people survive famines back in the day. If you're hoping to just lie down and drift off you are mistaken.

40f might possibly be cold enough if you have extremely long exposure, use water as well, and make sure you are very far away from people. But it will not be quick and it will not be painless and it will be hard work and effortful to resist the urge to just go home. People only die in those temps if they fall in water and cant get out, or eg fall and break a limb when hiking and can't escape or call
for help.

TLDR; I think this is a method IN SUITABLE TEMPERATURES A LOT LOWER THAN 40f but it won't be quick and it won't be painless. You need to mentally and practically prepare for that if you are really committed to ctb.

very cold isn't what you're aiming for, generally. i think there are other posts if you search but you're aiming for hypothermia without frostbite (avoiding limb loss and whatnot). here's a guide w diphenhydramine which you can get otc.

I plan to drink my SN deep into the forest during very cold weather!
