  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

I was lucky to experience 10 days retreat, learning Vipassana meditation technique. It gave me a lot of introspection and changed the way of my mundane thinking, but unfortunately, only for a time (because of lack of practice and stressful environment). Because of my depression and, frankly, completely lack of willpower, it's very hard to implement it in everyday life.
My question is to people who practice any sort of meditation techniques - how do you manage to do it consistently when in depressed state of mind? Any advice would be appreciated. I really think it would benefit my recovery, but with every failed attempt I feel more and more helpless.

I would tell you to be depressed. Sit with it. Recognize it as another thought that comes through your mind. Know that there will be a time when you're not thinking about this. You're not the depressed thought, you're the one watching it.

I don't believe one can 'fail' at meditation. I used to have a problem where I kept falling asleep whenever I would sit for more than ten minutes. I was bummed about it at first, then I realized I really did need the sleep. My brain was that overworked.

The burden you release in meditation is not the depression itself, but rather how you attach to the depressed thoughts.

I could be wrong but I think anyone that can be successful in meditation might not be on this site thinking of ending things. Meditation while suffering from depression is extremely difficult, not impossible but tough is an understatement

The easiest meditation i made is "yoga nidra" It's fun and relaxing but it's very hard not to sleep in the process.
I think it's easier than other methods

Thank you for your response. It's an interesting idea - to observe depressed state as any other emotion and to accept that reality, but not let it consume you.
I always try to go for 30 minutes, maybe I should start with shorter meditation until I develop a habit.

Thank you for your input! I know it's not the best place, but for now is the only place I feel comfortable talking to people, since a lot of us can emphasize with each others struggles.

Thank you for your suggestion, I will look it up!
