• Hey Guest,

An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.

Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.

I recently watched the film 'submarine' and something about it connected with me, and moved me to the point of tears. What are some movies that made you cry?

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Showed the fragility of human life and time as our mortal enemy.

Also District 9.

Showed the innate cruelty of humans and our inability to meet others who are different than us halfway. This show actually legit fucked me up. I slashed my wrists after seeing it. Randomly and deeply, tears and blood mixing all over the bathroom floor. It was weird. Maybe it was a catalyst for other feelings I was feeling. I don't know. But it fucked me up.

It's not a particularly sad movie, especially considering the fact I can't even cry when I wish to. I don't know what it was, but something in this movie really got to me. I was sobbing to the point I had to pause and come back to it later.

As a kid and even now "Two Brothers" (some shitty film about tigers) always makes me ugly cry. "Brokeback Mountain" murders me too. There's also a Chinese documentary about a trans woman called "The Two Lives of Li Ermao" which never fails to make me sob.

Interstellar (2014), weirdly enough.

I don't watch movies that often, because I have a hard time getting immersed in them. But for some reason, Interstellar got to me, despite (or because of?) the absurdly cheesy ending.

Last weekend I watched: Maquia, when the promised flower blooms (Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana wo Kazarou)

It was a very beautiful and emotional film.

The vertical threads are the passing days. The horizontal ones are the lives of mankind. The people of Iorph live far away from the lands of men, weaving the happenings of each day into fabric called Hibiol. They live for centuries, yet maintain the appearance they had in their late teens, and are known as "The Clan of Partings" and treated as a living legend. Maquia, an orphaned Iorph girl, lives her life peacefully surrounded by friends, but somehow feels "alone". But the peaceful lives of the Iorph are shattered in an instant when the Mezarte army, seeking the blood that grants them long life, invades on beasts called Renato. Amidst the despair and chaos, Leilia, the most beautiful of the Iorph girls, is kidnapped by the Mezarte, and Krim, a young boy who Maquia secretly has feeling for, goes missing. Maquia manages to escape, but loses her friends and her home…As she wanders through a dark forest with an empty heart, she encounters a baby who is "alone", after just having lost its parents. Ariel grows into a young boy. Even as time passes, Maquia retains the form of a young girl. The same seasons, but different flows of time. As the era changes, the bond between them changes too. This is a story of irreplaceable time, woven by two people who are alone.

Oh these are both really great! You may be interested to know that my dad did special effects for D9. Won't mention names tho because of anonymity :) Thank you for taking the time to respond :)

Everything Everywhere All At Once.

I have so many words about this movie and none of them will do it justice. The movie is amazing and it deserved all those Oscars. I start ugly crying whenever I watch it.

To Sleep So As To Dream. I find the ending so so so beautiful and romantic,
to take part in fulfilling someones dream ending right before they pass away
, the thought of it is so marvelous and heartbreaking to me. I love it more than any other movie.

Look Back made me very emotional... I can't remember if any other film has made me cry... Finding Jesus made me cry of laughter? or maybe insanity. I definitely cry of laughter from any Niel Breen film lolololol

Contributing animated films:

Up (2009) and Big Hero 6 (2014) portrayed grief well. Your Name's (2016) plot twist took me out. Plus, not a movie, but just about every episode of Natsume's Book of Friends squeezed my heart.

Seconding Your Name (2016) and also wanted to chime in with another (pretty cliche, but whatever) answer: The End of Evangelion (1997).

I don't know.
Something about the part where Asuka is half-conscious in the cockpit of her Eva, at the bottom of a lake, desperately begging not to die while her mother's spirit calls out to her just emotionally shatters me. Plus the whole fight sequence leading up to her death that instills so much false hope, all for nothing.
Sometimes I watch it for that part specifically, when I'm in the mood to cry.
