  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Today could be a big turning point for me (at least I hope so).
After years of depression and suicidal thoughts and several failed OD attempts a fresh start is looming.
After my father died 30 months ago I really hit rock bottom. I'd been living with him for 5 years after I lost my job and home due to depression and alcoholism and became his full-time carer as his health deteriorated.
Once he passed I got behind on my rent (9 months behind!), didn't pay any utility Bill's or credit cards and was barely existing. When the threat of eviction finally arose I decided to seek help, initially with my GP. He was absolutely brilliant and put me in touch with mental health services and a support worker.
Through their collective efforts and an understanding landlord I'm debt free (yes, including all that back rent) and moving in to a new flat on Saturday. Some guys came this morning to clear out all my old Dad's stuff from my current place (I had been emotionally unable to face it by myself) and help me pack ready for Saturday's move.
Although still somewhat apprehensive I'm treating this as a complete new start and really hoping my 'new' life will be better than my old one.
Cheers everyone!

Edit
I forgot. My new flat allows pets so I've made initial enquiries about adopting Margo. Because of Covid though it will be a while but fingers crossed. I think she'll help me with my recovery having responsibility for another living being.

That's great you've got an opportunity to recover and move forward with your life — best of luck to you.

I'm cat-oriented myself, but that lil dog is so cute! One thing, you might want to remove the link as it reveals your location.

I'm so happy for you! :) This will turn the tide and give you the opportunity to take a new shot at life. I think we hesitate to seek help all too often. I'm definitely guilty of this myself. I wish you all the luck in finding happiness again and I'm sure your little dog will help you in your endeavours.

Thanks for your kind words. I would remove the link but the edit function seems to have disappeared. Any ideas?

This sounds wonderful and very inspiring. I'm moving into my new apartment soon, so that will be a milestone for me to improve my mental health, alcoholism and financial situation.

Thought I'd give a bit of an update:

Been in my new flat for 1 week now. It has been completely refurbished. With my support worker's help I've been able to raise some funds through an Emergency Living Fund (this is a grant type thing, so I dont have to pay it back). Gonna use it to clear the last couple of bills from my old place and stock up on food. Also got some money for new furniture some of which is arriving next week. I have to pay this back but at 0% interest, cant be bad. Without my support worker I wouldn't even have known that these funds are available.

I have to say I haven't felt this good and optimistic in years. Let's hope it stays that way.

Anyway, if you're reading this and feel that there's no hope please believe that help is out there, you just have to ask. I know seeking help can seem difficult, almost like admitting to yourself that you're just not good enough but PLEASE try. Speak to someone you trust, a friend, a family member, your therapist, GP or social worker, anyone.

Thanks to all here and wishing that you achieve your goals whatever they may be.

You've taken several important steps towards recovery now. You'll have to continue to fight, but you'll do fine. Good luck!
