• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

I have posted this link before in some thread about preferred music and have known it for decades. But i can't get it out of my head, day or night. Traumerei means dreaming. The music, the images from the video. The composer of this music Schumann, tried to commit suicide and finished his life in a mental institution. It's just so beautiful and makes me cry every time, as much as i don't like to admit it. I love rock and all sorts of stuff, but this...it's beauty, tragedy, sorrow and hope. I watch it at 3am when i can't sleep 20 times over again.

Youtube can sometimes replace the link somehow with something else vaguely related, so if there's an issue then just google traumerei and horowitz, it will be a recital in Moscow. But the link it seems to give along with traumerei, scenes from childhood is also beautiful. But click on the first the options, otherwise you get a general recital that includes all sorts.

Very peaceful. Smoked a bowl to this even though it kind of reminds me of The Shining.

I'm not sure why it makes you think of the shining but if you got a good toke out of it, it was worth it. Ha!

Does anyone else have a piece of music they become obsessed with.

Schumann is one of my favourite composers <3 I learned to play this piece many years ago, it's one of my favourites by him. It's absolutely beautiful <3 and Vladimir Horowitz is actually also one of my favourite pianists.

Yes,. I randomly bought a cd about 20 years ago. It was the etudes symphoniques, at some discount shop. It is hard to explain but i felt immediately a connection with this man, before i knew anything about his life when i listened to it. And i wasn't even especially into classical music at the time. And the more i listen to horowitz the more i respect his playing, the dignity. It's always been a dream of mine to get a piano and learn to play this piece. It ought to be enough to live just for that eh.

It's amazing what music can do, what it can make you feel. It's one of the only things I can enjoy now :)

Any music we relate to inspires us, it's why there are so many threads in here about music. If you can play yourself so much the better but most can't. Even so, when i hear something like schumann i feel a thread from the 19th century. It's critical to feel this connection when all else fails, whatever era it comes from. It's the same with books but there are few threads here about that. someone ought to start one. I've just made for the millionth time a resolution to live for this kind of thing...

Thanks OP

I had a good time listening to this.

I've had a mantra that art is life and life is art .

On a good day it can really lift you up .

Coming to terms with ourselves and the world is ingrained upon us that it involves other people. people can help if you know some good ones but music and literature connect us as well with people, just that we don't know them and meet them every day, or not at all. A connection is possible however. If it's enough to sustain us is another thing. Glad you enjoyed it.

As for Schumann, he's the composer that speaks from the heart in his piano works more than any other i have heard, along with Liszt. It's not sentimental or designed for audiences. It's an expression of his inner soul, his madness. But he has a sensitivity with his madness that in Liszt i find less often. I'm no expert in this but there is compassion, madness, anger, chaos, sensitivity and a childlike naivety in the piano works of schumann. Truly human works of art.

Beauty, tragedy, sorrow and hope is all I listen for in music. It's all I understand
