I actually really dig it, but I may be biased because I really like this emo / indie punk-ish style in a first place. But it's really niche style, it's not supposed to be appreciated by normies. Your friends probably think Midwest Pen Pals are trash too, so who cares. If you like doing the music, keep doing it and don't bother yourself with opinions of people who don't understand this style.

I think it's pretty interesting, actually. I especially like the layered vocal harmonies. It's pretty weird/unconventional though, so don't be surprised if the average person doesn't appreciate it. If your "friends" actually called it trash, they are assholes. You have a lot of potential, keep it up <3

No it's not abysmal. I said potential because I think it could be a lot better, and that you have a lot of good ideas that could be executed better if you keep working on them and keep honing your craft. I think the same thing of myself as an artist, it's not black and white. Even Bach, Mozart, and Debussy wrote songs that were less than perfect.

It is good, shows a lot of potential. Work on your audio levels though. Make a whole CD with that style. I'm trying to think of what style that is. Is it a Blink 182 style? Keep your transitions however it might be too chaotic, might need to simplify it if you know what I mean. Keep the same content in the song though and like I said transitional style, the phases in the song.

And it is not about if people like your song, it is about if you like making it.

These people don't know you. If they really hated it they would tell you. No need to second guess everything they're saying when someone says something nice.

Now with that being said I think the vocals could use a bit more processing to sound better. I liked the lyrics and the guitar work. I also liked the harmonies. Overall it just needs some better mastering and it could be good.

What your friend said was rude and hurtful. they should have found a better way to tell you it wasn't something they would normally listen to. That being said I get taking everything to heart since it's something you worked on. It's your project. But you need to work on that. Not everything is a personal attack. If you want to make music and publish it to the public you're going to get some hate regardless of how good it is. The thing you need to do is let that go. Take some of it into consideration, but mostly just keep doing what you're doing.

Honestly, I'm 99% sure they are straight-up just a troll who signed up to this forum to spam his music everywhere. He's definitely lying about the whole ordeal with his friends. He made a thread not that long before this one trying to people to listen to the same song but it got no reply. He also posted the same song on somebody else's thread, asking if it was trash. I think he made up this whole thing about his friends hating on his song because he knew that it would get people responding.

I have a feeling that he specifically signed up here to troll all of us by spamming his music everywhere.

The vocals are untrained so it's gritty/scratchy. You don't have to have professional vocal coaching though, you can teach yourself. It just has to be good enough for auto tune to work on it effectively if your goal is to make a record.

What genre of music are you going for? I'm not a music buff so Idk what yours is, but you should define a general category for yourself and add instrumentals that "sound" like that genre.

The layering feels excessive to me.

Lyrics are subjective, but if your vocals aren't carrying you want your lyrics to be strong. Write something that can stand on its own without a backing track. There are a million ways to write lyrics if you search online. It's fine to use profanity, but your vocals aren't stellar so I'd save the crudeness for later.

It's a raw piece, I think having made a record is a great start.
