How do you stop getting nightmares? When I was more depressed, my sleep used to be the nice time where I was finally unconscious and away from the world~ But now, just like I was when I was a kid, I'm having nightmares practically every day again! :/ Tonight, for the first time in my life, I kicked a chair and fell off my bed, thinking I was fighting against a thief~ I've historically never moved when sleeping, so that is rather ridiculous. Is there a way to stop getting nightmares? :) Thank you

I'm not an expert, so I'll give you common knowledge.

For example, I have sleep paralysis relatively often.
One thing I have noticed is that sleeping on your back increases the likelihood of sleep paralysis.

As for nightmares, it's hard to say.
Many things can influence this.
For example, your mental health, sleep hygiene, substance use, stress, trauma, etc.

I don't think there is a silver bullet to get rid of nightmares.
But for example you can do the following:
- take care of sleep hygiene
- do not eat food before bed
- Do not drink alcohol before bed (if you drink)
- can ensure optimal temperature in the room.
- sports
- sleeping routine: I mean always go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time.
-and other...

Alternatively, you can go to the doctor.
If I remember correctly, doctors can, for example, prescribe clomipramine, etc.

I started to think that nightmares program the subconscious to be more resilient by confronting the worst imaginary possibilities that can threaten our lives.
