Thanks for posting and for that summary!
Here is a translation of the video for anyone who doesn't speak Dutch although the video gives pretty visuals to let us know what is happening.
TITLE CARDS:
If you do not qualify for euthanasia, you can take control of your own death, so that you do not have to die alone,
This film is about the method of ending one's own life with nitrogen gas. It's fast, safe and pain-free.
Nitrogen is odorless, non-flammable and non-explosive. If the gas enters the room, it is not dangerous to others who inhale it.
W1: No, no, you don't mean that. No, mom.
W2: I've been thinking about it for a while. My doctor doesn't want to think along with me, he thinks I'm still too good.
W1: Yes, you are really too good, mom, you still live on your own, you went to a concert last week.
W2: And to two funerals. Saying goodbye all the time, everyone keeps dying. I'm dying, I can feel it in everything. I lost my glasses, my cell phone. I've been searching all day. I didn't want to learn to drink until the end. And I wanted to decide my way, because I think enough is enough.
CARD: Dying under your own control with nitrogen
W2: I have always experienced good and bad times. As it happens in a human life. But lately I've started to notice that I'm talking old. I get little headaches here and there and I'm becoming a bit of a jerk. Besides, everyone around me is dying, my best friends are dying. And I think it has been beautiful. But my doctor does not think that I am eligible for expression after seeing. So I'll have to come up with something myself. A pill seems like something to me, but yes, but that is not available. And now I have read that nitrogen methods are a good method.
Quick and painless. Suddenly the light goes out. That seems like something to me.
Do you have it? I'm doing so well. Yes (put it in the) corner.
(Showing the tank): The first half of the supplies all come from the welding shop.
Of course it starts with a full tank. The tank contains gas under very high pressure. Because it can be controlled by hand, a pressure regulator is required. This ensures that the gas flows out in a truly controlled manner. (Video showing the valve). This outflow occurs through a valve on the pressure meter. (Video showing the hose) And a matching hose is then connected to that valve.
First you have to put that (regulator) around this (shows putting teflon sealant tape around the tank valve first).
Yes. Okay… (woman struggling to put the regulator on, asks for help because she is strained/weak hands).
W1: Do you know what that's called?
W2: Yes. The regulator.
(Assembly of the tank, regulator, output nozzle and hose).
Cut to the regulator: W2 V/O: The pressure regulator has two gauges. The meter at the connection to the gas tank has a bar scale. This indicates the pressure within the tank. That tank is full of high-pressure gas. A full tank will indicate 200 bar pressure. This will become less and less with use. The second meter indicates the amount of gas flowing from the tank to the hose. This is measured in liters per minute. (Shows imagery of it going up to 15 LPM)
W1: Is it properly closed, is the pressure gauge knocking?
W2: Yes, yes (it's closed)
W1: Let's hope
W2: Yes.
W1: And now that part, I think?
W2: Yes.
W1: (pointing to the regulator) And where do you have to go?
W2: 15 liters.
W2: And once that goal has been arranged with the gas tank, there must of course also be something at the other end of the hose. On the internet I found a mask that is used by the fire brigade when they enter a dangerous area. But I also did something myself.
I grabbed a roasting bag from the supermarket to serve as a kind of mask.
They both work on the idea that higher pressure inside the mask or roasting bag will blow out the air (oxygen) inside.
By setting the gas supply to the mask or roasting bag higher than the pressure of the outside air, the gas is blown outside. Ambient air containing oxygen cannot enter due to this overpressure. So you only breathe nitrogen. You don't notice any difference from that. Your lungs don't notice the difference.
Look, and then this has to go in here. But that is of course very loose. So I went to the garden center and bought this piece. It actually needs two garden hoses. But yeah, look, that's still a bit loose. So there needs to be some tape around this. You have to do that.
(adjusting the hose). Yes, let's see how that works. Well, that fits really well. That fits really well.
Well, that should be in here again. But yes, then this should really just be secured with a little tape. Don't you think so?
W2: Oh yes.
(cuts a piece of tape)
Here's a little extra tape.
Yes. Okay, great.
Oh yes. Oh yeah, well, that just fits really well.
(Puts more tape around the hose connection)
Yes. Well, that's really good.
(Discussing if she will use the bag or mark): What will it be? The bag or the mask?
They both work equally well and quickly. I think I would choose the mask myself. Because then I can still keep a clear view of my surroundings in my last moments.
W2: Okay. Well, honey. Well. Yes. Thank you, hun. Without you, I wouldn't have succeeded.
And don't forget to bring a stand to put the camera on, so that you can see on the image that I turn on the tap myself and the mask is on. And you won't have any trouble with that. Yes, rather, it's difficult, but you just have to remember, it's the way I want it.
(Women say goodbye to each other)
(Showing positioning and tying tank to chair): W2 V/O: This makes perfect. You have to do it yourself. Your loved ones are not allowed to help you (put on the mask or turn on the gas tank). And at the moment itself you will have another thing on your mind. When the time comes, you must prevent the body from falling over when you become unconscious. If you fall over, the tank can also fall over. Therefore, attach the tank to a table or chair leg with a rope or a quick-release strap.
And choose a chair or bed where you can lean back a bit. This way you can't fall over.
The first action is to open the gas tap. That should be easy.
Can you reach it well? Always use the hand over which you have the best control. Open the tap briefly and check whether the air flow per minute is still at the correct setting.
For the mask this needs 15 liters per minute.
Place the mask on top of your head and practice placing it first. Adjust the headband at the same time. It should fit comfortably; it doesn't have to be very tight. The next step is to turn on the gas (tank) and then put on the mask.
Whether I'll do it, I have no idea. I don't know what's coming next. But if I deteriorate further, I know what I have to do. If the GP cannot help with it. I like the feeling that if necessary, I am not dependent on anyone. That I can decide for myself.
And that I don't have to die alone, but that my daughter can be there.
