Hello,

I don't want to eat anything for up to a week (a kind of self-harming method) but I never manage it and always come back to eating...

Can someone nice maybe give me help or tips on how to do this properly

I've tried it more than 20 times so far and always failed on the first day

Please help me

First of all, to clarify you're talking about just not eating but still drinking water? If so, fasting for a few days or even a week is usually not that difficult, but the first day or two is the hardest. After that you more or less lose your hunger pangs and appetite and your body takes over by drawing calories from its reserves. It's just a matter of resolve, deciding you're going to do this and then follow through. If you're not drinking water, too, then that's a whole different thing. (And can quite quickly start leading to organ damage) Something I don't have any experience with. People in hospice will oftentimes stop eating and drinking on their own and this will quickly help them die.

I chew a lot of sugar-free gum and drink a lot of water whenever I starve myself, but I did fast for almost 3 weeks a couple years ago without any gum at all. If I'm depressed enough, I'll start sleeping when I get hungry. If I'm not depressed enough, I take a sleep pill. At some point the starvation feeling goes away, around day 4-5 for me and is easier to manage if it does come back. I also consume half a tea spoon of salt per day if I don't eat for more than a week to avoid being light headed and passing out.

If you've failed 20 times so far then you just don't have the genetics for fasting, I'd give up on this particular avenue of self-harm if I were you. In any case it's not worth it because even if you managed the seven days, on the eighth day you'd have a massive binge and by the tenth you'll probably have undone the entire caloric deficit and be right back to square one, having achieved nothing but yet more misery and suffering, both on a physical and mental level.

What exactly is the purpose of stopping eating for a week? Your body will enter ketosis, which is OK, but apart from that you will not achieve anything else, even for the general detox of the body, you need not to eat for 21 days. More serious consequences for the body and life can occur. only after approx. 45/50 days without food, but before 60 days, don't expect anything like shutting down the organism, although I would move the limit up to 75 days.

back when i still believed in islam i fasted for a whole month until sundown i think i should be able to manage that

Right, but you break your fast everyday at sundown, so depending on where you live and what time of year it is, that could be only like 13-20 hours of fasting per day. You said yourself that you always break on the first day, so your Ramadan fasts give no reason to believe that you'd be able to do anything more. I agree with other posters that this doesn't make sense as a self-harm method.

Having a feeling of hungry is a kind of self-harm I think many have not understood how I meant it I also didn't write that I want to use it 100% as selfharm but a kind of self harm

I could tell you that it makes a bit easier if you can get into drinking just black coffee. it supresses appetite but if you dont like it then i just suggest water or plain tea. cigs help but smoking is obviously not for everyone. I hope you are doing okay. If you wanna talk to somebody about disordered eating and impulses just hit me up. <3 Love

I could tell you that it makes a bit easier if you can get into drinking just black coffee. it supresses appetite but if you dont like it then i just suggest water or plain tea. cigs help but smoking is obviously not for everyone. I don't like coffee or cigars at all, but thank you

Anyway, I'm sorry you had to struggle with it for so long I hope you find peace one day

If hunger is what you're chasing, you're better off forgoing fasting altogether and just eating smaller--but not too much smaller--amounts everyday (so like 1200-2000 cal/day). As other commenters mentioned, at a certain point of fasting, your body stops giving you hunger signals because it understands there's no food in the environment so it would be irrational to waste precious, precious energy on a hunger signal that has no chance of being fulfilled. By eating at a less-than-you-need-but-more-than-starvation level, you keep your body in a state where it's constantly asking for more yet never truly satisfied.

You have to ease into it. Start with intermittent fasting for a couple months. Then movie into 24hr fasts and beyond
Probably more than couple months tbh
