  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Alexandre Baril brings up a massively important and understated topic that is the violence, discrimination and oppression that suicidal people face in the name of "saving them from themselves" and "for their own good", such as forced hospitalizations, arrests, alienation, etc. I highly recommend reading the following interview with him and his book Undoing Suicidism because
he puts it far better than I ever could. My favorite phrase is that of "suicide-affirmative like trans-affirmative", where the expert and ultimate decision-maker is the suicidal or trans person.

Here's the interview:

"Simply put, suicide prevention often increases deaths by suicide rather than prevents them." - I can say anecdotally this is true. Therapy and being in a mental hospital made everything worse for me.

"But suicide prevention services send a paradoxical message since those who open their hearts often experience harm, forced treatments, and rights violation in the name of care and of saving vulnerable people from themselves, all because suicide is never an option." - This is also true, simply for the fact that you're treated as a broken person, rather than a person who's suffering. They have to put glue on the break but not fix the stress causing the cracks in the first place.

If only the rest of the world could see this. It was an interesting read. Thanks for sharing.
