I really hate that if your parents pay for you to live they're automatically assumed to be "supportive" despite never actually doing anything to emotionally or morally support their own kids. My mom loves to say, "I'll support whatever you want to do," but if I say I want to do ballroom dance: "You're too clumsy for that." I say I want to enlist in the military like the rest of my family: "You should be an officer instead." I say I want to be a fighter pilot: "You don't have the grades for that." I say I want to go to school for social work: "That doesn't make a lot of money." She raises me my entire life saying, "As long as you're working OR going to school, you can live here." I try to quit my job to focus on school and she threatens to take my only means of transporation away, so I end up dropping out fucking twice. I wish my parents were fucking poor so they'd actually have to be parents instead of just throwing money at us. None of us even got to go to therapy until we started inconveniencing them. I said I wanted to die at 8 and they didn't give a fuck until it was 8 years later and I was actually attempting.
